and yes the Plexiglas cracked when i drilled the holes for the fans, im not sure if thats what you meant as rivets have nothing to do with the window...

that side door is totally finished, the top piece of the case got a small wood chip in the 3rd coat of clear immediately after painting, so it got royally screwed, and i missed a small corner of the face piece with red, so i have to redo that;

after first coat of red on the windowd door, i noticed some nasty ripples in the metal as a result of pressure from the Vice, and torque from the angle grinder/files:
Image
Image
Image
Image
Primed it:
Image
i messed up the paint a bit because i didn't remove enough paint when sanding the primer  so it has the appearance of sun-dried mud in one small place, REDO!

this mod is taking so much longer because of mistakes that arent really in my control :\

what i did here was take my board out, put masking tape on the back of it and mark the outer holes to fasten the mobo(for reference when i transfer the masking tape to the tray) and marked where the Backplate is, and where the screws for the Southbride-Northbridge-mosfet heatsink are, was surprised how well a jigsaw works on metal

and tomorrow i take the leap into the hardcore, lapping my E7200! i have 320-600-800-1500-2000 now, and im waiting till tomorrow because its too late in the day, and i game all night, but this is the final step to my case mod as well, at the same time i'll be re-do'ing the thermal comp. on the south/northbridge heatsink for the first time, and clean my board up nice, and clean my GPU and lap my MASScool heatsink!

lapped and assembled, enjoy:

heatsink after 2000

heatsink polished

assembled
Image
Image
Image

when i booted back up my overclock crashed my system and it reset to defaults, but its idling at 20C/29C(core0/core1) GPU is idling 8C colder in its new home
Image

this case is tiny now that i have it assembled and i missed two holes for the mosfet heatsink on the 750i, which sucks because i forgot a screw when i changed out the thermal comp, and it was under one place i DIDNT have the hole drilled, so have to take the board out and fix that tomorrow

if you want to stop cracks happening in you perspex try drilling a small hole first then get bigger and for future use a dremil for cutting it does a much neater job leaving you with a little bit of edge filing to do

but all in all its a good lookin mod i like the gloss black interior and thats a well done job on the lapping nice finish

Nice job! However I've found that it is worth the extra cost to go with lexan instead of plex if I plan to cut or drill as it isn't as brittle.

Your lapping job took more patience than I have years, one of the best I've seen. :)

Re: Rally Racer

now for all the problems(stuff hitting other things)
REALLY?! they had to put a rivet, THERE, on the expansion bay for the PCIe x16 slot 1, have to pull on the back of the case and bend it temporarily to get the card in and out
Image
the GSO's are a LITTLE long for the case, but it works(2 photo issue..)
Image
not a lot of give there
Image
and to kick you while you're down, lets waste a ton of space and NOT allow a 120mm fan to directly fasten to the case, resulting in difficulty getting it by the Mosfet hs
Image
i have to loosen the Raptor if i want to unplug the IDE ribbon
Image
BUT, when i take the raptor out, it hits the RAM clips/RAM/northbridge hs
Image
doesnt look bad when all is said and done though

You've done a bang up job brother! That textured paint inside looks boss! Who's paint did you use?

And lapping your proc? You've got more guts than me kid. That's the only thing I've never worked up the courage to do.

Re: Rally Racer

the paint i used for the interior actually isnt textured, it is textured on the top piece because i kept masking the original black paint off, you'll notice it on very early pictures before i painted anything, but the paint is walmart flat black, not sure it has a brand, but it flakes off pretty easily, so avoid using it if possible, lol

as for lapping, its pretty easy if you know when to move off the coarse grit stuff(wow, did i really call 320 grit watered down, coarse?) the top coat on the CPU is shiny-er, but it doesn't really get flat until you're into the copper

It is nice to know someone with a big case has fitting issues like us wee guys (mATX)! Not really, but your doing a bang up job with it and it does look awsome! :)

As far as the HDD that plays havoc with the GPUs....have an emty 3.5 bay to put it in??

that is very slick looking!!!

I hear ya on the space issue. when i just built me new setup, i had to completely remount the HDD because the plug on the vid card was sticking out too far and i could not put the hard drive in, an i have a pretty big case, antec p180.

regardless, that look really nice.

its not a big case in general(as far as midtowers) but glad you like it!

and the Video Cards and HDDs are stacked so to speak, being SLI, it takes away 2+ hard drive places between the two cards, and then i have to think about air flow from the front fan too, half the places would also be a pain because it would be impossible to get the wires to cooperate

You might want to try and find some molding to mask off the edges of the drive bays where the paint peeled off. I know they make some nice black ones that would match your case. Or even maybe some red ones? Just a thought. :-k
