Intel Raid on MB - where are configs? Port changes?

Post by Bookseller »

I have a D975XBX2 and am struggling with some raid issues.

Is the config information in the controller itself, or a part of the drive?

more specifically -- can I change ports on the drives, and reboot, to try to test?

I have raid-1 configured on a volume (call it "A") on ports 0/1, and another raid-1 volume (call it "B") on ports 2/3.

Port 0 continues to fail.

I would like to "A" and "B", so that al lthe same drives are there, but on different ports. I am concerned that in doing so nothing will be recognized and I will effectively have four empty drives.

Or does it recognize its config from drive-stored info and match to the new ports?

The alternative would appear to be to remove two drives, then restore them one by one, rebuild, them do the other drives. Risky if something happens.

I can't seem to find anything beyond the most simplistic information on how to deal with raid on the intel controller. Anyone know the details that might suggest the best approach?
