I might run another dual core for the contest also  just for the hell of it - maybe I will let the PS3 on also...hell, its only electricity :)

Do any of the mods or writers or folding team members want to help out with this?

I'm too slammed to handle this and can't seem to get get anyone here to spear head this. I have 10 AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition processors sat aside for this, which I think is great. It should drive people to the team and reward some of our current folders with a $200 processor you can keep or sell off to get something you need for say your folding rig.

We have more than a dozen writers and forum mods than can help do this and post news of this on the front page and so on. Would be awesome to get a 468x60 banner made up for this as well to help promote it here on top of the forums and on the front page of LR...

If no one wants to help out for this I'll just do random drawings on the site for them and skip the folding war this year.

Any idea on a contest format that will get in new members and be fair for all?

What about doing the competition for fun and have a random drawing (for the participants) for the processors. I think trying to figure out teams that will balance is going to be the toughest part. If anyone has any suggestions lets hear em.

As for contest setup, I liked how the last folding war was set up, so no arguments with that structure.

options that i can think of for who get a chip:

-dedicated but low-output folders
-top-producer per-team
-randomly, a set amount of chips per team
-randomly among all folders participating
-winning team all get one
-losing team all get one
-highest-output, new-to-team folder
-longest-running folder participating
-most consistent folder(gets points everyday, everyday getting close to the exact same number of points) during it
-the lowest possible PPD while still getting at least one point per day of the contest
-who gets the Biggest update during the whole contest
-who gets the smallest update other than zero during the contest
-who achieves a major milestone during the event
-who achieves the most milestones during the event
-the most # of units put in during the event
-the most separate systems used

a couple ideas that came to my head :partyman:

The fairest way would be for you to do a random drawing amongst all participants who fold at least 75% of the time of the competition. That way someone can't just fold 1 day and be entered...they have to really contribute. I don't want to do a point minimum because some people are putting everything they can to it and fold the whole time but only put out 500 ppd...maybe its their ps3?

Not sure if anyone wants me on their team or not, but the machine that I won from here will be Folding the Palit 9600GT 1GB as always. Points are all over the board right now so i can't make a prediction to actual points at this time.

a couple ideas that came to my head :partyman:
Some of those ideas work...others don't. But anyways, that's not what I wanted to post. That is NOT a couple ideas

Umm for the Folding War, we can have maybe 5 people to a team and try to use the PPD predictions so the points earned by each team will be fair. We shouldn't place the big folders all on one team, while mixing up moderate and smaller folders on seperate teams, since there's a high chance that the big folders will win the contest. By big and small folders, I mean the amount of PPD that they put up. Team that wins the folding contest, members will each get a Phenom II.

So if there's 5 to each team, then there's 5 Phenom II left to give out. Not sure how we would give out the remaining 5 though..

At $200 a piece they will make a nice upgrade or whatever you want to do with it...

Looking at doing 3-4 person teams where the winning team member will each get a 965BE

We will also be doing a drawing for new people that join the F@H team for a chance to win a 965BE as well.

If the first contest goes well I'll have enough processors to do it again... That means as many as 10 people could be walking away with 965 BE processors, that is $2,000 worth of processors!

You guys ready to get folding?
Do you still want to try and run two f@h wars, or do you want to give all the chips away in one?

I am sure we have someone who is more than capable of doing this. Do we have any volunteers? My photoshop skills are abysmal at best.

Last thought on this post. Who would want to help me decided on the way processors will be given away. I figure one or two of us can decide on the different ways that can be done in addition to the winning team. Once we decide we can run them by Nate for his approval.

I'm in, Bubba069 @ ~13K PPD

Getting my systems straight by monday, driver issues caused the folding to screw up. Think I have it all straightened out.

FYI, 12k points a day will be way wrong for me. I'll only have the one machine running during the extent of the Folding War and that is the machine I won from here. My gamer is having issues, even after a fresh install of windows and my dual card machine is out of commission right now.

I'm in if I can still sign up. I have no idea what kind of production I'll get since I haven't run in a while. Figure 2 9600 GSO's and my 4850. I plan on having the GSO machine going sometime this weekend, just need to move it to the computer room and get it updated.

[Edit on 11/8 - Got the GSO rig folding now, so should start seeing some output from me starting tomorrow. Still need to tweak the shaders and such...]

I'm going to suggest we hang fire for another week so we can promote this event and work out a few more technicalities (i.e. deciding who gets the processors)

We at least need to sort out team captains before we dive into this :P
