ATI 5970 Cards Sold Out In Hours

ATI has reported that due to component shortages prior to the release, original shipments of the 5970 cards were modest. Given that the $600 price is out of reach for many, there was some speculation on whether or not the 5970 cards would sell out. Speculation is over as the cards are listed at e-tailers but nary a card in stock can be found.

I personally tried to catch when they were first available for sale online but never saw a moment when they were actually in stock so pre-orders likely killed all availability. As such, we are seeing prices exceed Retail value - over $650 in some places. I wouldn't expect to see prices to stay at $599 for long anyway as long as demand exceeds supply.

No need to hurry getting these out in big numbers yet. It may cannibalize their already great sales in the 5870.
