Gas Prices due to Katrina.

Gas in michigan is at $3.50 a gallon, i know people talk about this all the time but its basically what drives our contry.

Gas went from $2.38 to $2.69 here in St. Charles, Missouri yesterday.

Mushkin said gas was $2.96 in LA (up from $2.78 )
Kristin said gas was $2.79 in Springfield, Missouri
Barrett said gas is $2.64 in Austin, Texas

In Springfield, MO it's gone from $2.49 to $2.79 in the past 2 days. Springfield was always cheaper than St Louis this summer and now St Louis is 10 cents cheaper!

2.99 at the moto in earth city. one of the guys was late coming in and said they was changing the sign as he past. about 9 this morning.

I got gas yesterday at 2.68 out here in the back woods. Might have gone up again already though, but I don't plan on going out to check...................

Meh, gas here is $1.20/liter, quite a bit more than anything in the US, and it's still cheaper than most of Europe...

I was shocked yesterday . . . I filled up at $2.39 at 10:30am, and when I drove by the same station at 4pm, it was $2.69!!! Less than 6 hours made it jump 30 cents...I think we've decided we're going to buy a hybrid, and hopefully within a year.

-er is there a shortage which docked the price up? Cause I don't think any gas stations are low on fuel.

Also, I hate how gas prices change with something like that. The gas that they're selling you is the same gas that they had yesterday at a lower price. Gasoline purchased since Katrina hasn't made it to the pumps yet.

So ultimately, yes it is all about profit. Everything runs on oil in our society, it isn't just cars but we get double costs cause everything is transported around by oil too- food, clothing, etc etc.

I think it's reasonable to say that everyone who was making 30K a year a decade ago need to be making 50K a year now to have the same lifestyle as they had then. Of course this is not the case and our quality of life is steadily decreasing, to the point that we force some fundamental economic changes- or Americans begin emmigrating because it is no longer the best place to live. If the Saudi government was democratic, separated church from state (or mosque), and lowered taxes pumping the monarchy's money back into government-funded programs- education health or relief efforts, the quality of life there would be better than that here.

It's like that with most mid-east nations, just greedy people who own the oil don't let that money go back to the people. Iran doesn't import oil to the US (or they say they don't), but in 3 months the tax on oil revenue has funded the government's budget for the whole year. That means the rest of this year + income tax + other funds is SURPLUS

2.99 for 87 or 3.09 for 93 at the same station. Some places I see 93 for 3.17.

I REALLY hope the government pulls a 1971/72 thing again. All these gas guzzling automobiles are getting annoying. It is ridiculous seeing ONE person driving in a freaking H2, which gets about 6MPG highway. I'm also tired of seeing people buying SUV's and huge trucks for the hell of it. If you actually need that type of vehicle, it's somewhat understandable.

We in America have nothing to bitch about when it comes to gas though. Europe pays an arm and a leg for a LITER of gas. I'm saddened that we can't have those awesome $1.xx per gallon prices, but oh well. Cost of living goes up I guess.

But again, the government and people need to make wiser decisions when it comes to vehicle choices. Gas guzzlers and higher prices, or economy cars and hopefully lower prices.

I agree that gas prices suck right now. I'm a graduate student and I haven't been paid since May so I'm feeling that pain. Just remember how luck we are compared to the people in Louisana and Mississippi though. We may have to pay a little more for gas but at least we still have our families, houses, cars, etc.

As much as the gas prices suck, I think it can almost be a good thing because maybe it will finally sway more people to seek alternative modes of transportation and buy more fuel efficient cars or automobiles that run on alternative fuel sources. This will hopefully also stimulate the automobile manufacturers to develop more fuel efficient and environmentally friendly cars as well.

This may start a flame war but...

American car engines are too big.. Over here the average engine size is about 1.4L, America - 2L!
We both do the same thing (single person driving to local store and back), american cars use ALOT more fuel..

Hybrid cars are the way to go..

there is to much "keeping up with the jones's" here in the US. to many people worried about what others think about what they drive and how they look.

folks need to slow down, doing 80mph down the road doesnt help. yeah you get there faster, but you used way more gas than you would have if you had been going 55. If you dont have to run the air don't, roll the window down. havent used mine all summer unless the kids are in the car, even then only if it was over 95.

and if you say "how else am I suposed to get to work on time" well go to bed earlier and get your but out of bed earlier give your self some extra time to get there.

oh and about the cars being big here in the us, yeah they are, we have small ones to, but the beter part of the US is FAT and fat dont like little cars because fat and small dont go together. and before you all go off on me for picking on fat folks. dont I'm fat.

"There's no question gas will hit $4 a gallon," Ben Brockwell, director of pricing at the Oil Price Information Service, said. "The question is how high will it go and how long will it last?"

OPIS tracks wholesale and retail oil prices and provides pricing information for AAA's daily reports on fuel prices.

Looks like $4 a gallon gas is coming in September...
