9x p4 3.0 single core processor servers
1x Xeon Dual 2.0 Quad Core (8core total)
1x Xeon Dual 3.0 Dual Core (4 core total)

I will have more up later today.

It has been a very long time since I have messed with this and I wanted to make sure I am going this right with the multicore servers. I read the wiki and followed the instructions, but wanted to pick yalls brains.

I created a different directory for each instance. I then used the -configonly and went into the advanced option to set the Machine ID to the core # e.g. MID 1 for core 0 and then used the taskset -c 0 ./fah6 to launch it in a screen session. Here is the screen session for the 8 core:

[root@fah3 ~]# screen -ls
There are screens on:
13507.5 (Detached)
13396.3 (Detached)
13373.4 (Detached)
13578.8 (Detached)
13422.2 (Detached)
13555.7 (Detached)
13530.6 (Detached)
13443.1 (Detached)

6 out of the 8 processes are working. the ones that arent are sitting at:

[09:44:27] - Attempt #9 to get work failed, and no other work to do.
Waiting before retry.
[10:05:47] + Attempting to get work packet
[10:05:47] - Connecting to assignment server
[10:05:47] + No appropriate work server was available; will try again in a bit.
[10:05:47] + Couldn't get work instructions.

But for the most part i think things are looking good. Hope this helps the team! Like i said, I will try and get more servers up.
Why not run the -bigadvmethods on your 8 core server? Even if you just run VMware you'll get tons more points.

Yep, I have three monitors. Two 22" plugged into the 9800GX2's DVI ports. Still gives me errors. SLI and PhysX were both off during my testing, I have the latest drivers, and I reinstalled the GPU tray (not console) clients as per instructions linked to earlier in this thread that were written for this forum...

I really did want to Fold on that second GPU, but it is not cooperating. That is the only problem I've ever had with this GPU, actually.
Use the console client instead of the tray clients. I think that's your problem right there. Also, you can still join in on the folding war with SMP + one GPU.

Maybe it's a time we make or update the how to install Folding@Home threads. Gotta get the most PPD out of every single machine that's folding out there.

If these are linux servers (I assume they Are) SMP client works reallly well and automatically will use all cores available.
Windows has a SMP client too, however I have had horrible luck with it.

i personally can put out more than 6k, but thats if i don't game, and i generally do from ~8pm to early AM so thats pretty optimistic, though i'm not sure about my SMP numbers, i havnt run SMP for a while(not at 3.42GHz either). set to "big" units i finished my first unit in about 4hrs 8)

I guess I did not make a team :goodman: Oh well folding anyway and I guess I can still win something. BTW my points are not 5000PPD...they are more like 10,000 PPD.

I thought the SMP would only work with x64 os. It is linux, Centos to be exact 32bit. With that thought I just simply ran 8 instances and on all 25 instances throughout all the servers chose big instead of normal.

will adding the -bigadv to one instance on the dual quad core rig make a big difference?

SMP, and BigAdv, if finished in time, will make a huge increase in PPD

It'll make a world of difference since you can get the bonus points if you finish them under a certain amount of time.

Check out my guide threads on how to get -bigadv working under Windows. Your CPUs need to support VT.

@kyle. Care to explain how it's not working? Did you drop in the 6.24 binary?

fold on! :drinkers:
I always have a little reserve. It's just a matter of keeping them running. With power crashes nearly every day, it was too much effort to keep everything running. The HTPC (that I won from LR) is on backup, so it keeps on kicking when the power flashes and all the others die.
