In an attempt to aid those who have taken the time to create original work I created a spreadsheet of the entries divided into four categories; Original works, dragons (this ones for you manduh), questionable works, and copyrighted works. The spreadsheet only contains those entries that appeared on the front page article.

As for me, I asked on the 3DRealms forums and they said there was no problem beacause it was fan-made.

Most stock images aren't free. They're free to use once you pay for the right to use them.

Fan made by YOU? There's a difference. You should still be securing the permission from the person who actually created it.

I did it. The guy who made the original duke nukem model that i colorised and modded a bit said yes, and the guy who made the duke nukem logo model said yes too.

So both 3DR forums' users and the original authors said that I could, but they wanted me to credit them if i win something... i'll respect their will.

Right on. Then you're good to go. That's the most important part of this whole issue. Being able to PROVE that you have the right to use that image.

Yeah, I have 3 proofs: 2 series of mails, one about the duke and one about the logo; and the post about the copyright in the 3DR forums.

Just so everyone knows my Firefighter Pictures are my own. I am a Firefighter in Las Vegas and I took pictures for our last academy. Here are the original pictures. That I took with my own camera. If you look at the bottom of the firefighter you can see that the turnouts say "Vegas" on them. Because I flipped the image. It is backwards. So you know. Some of us do have some dignity. I know you were not singling me out or anything but everyone should be honest with there work I am in total agreement.

Thank You!

Oh and one other thing. the name is Bombeiro-Firefighter in Portuguese. thanks

The penguin in my entry is my own. It was designed by my gf and I and I can post the photoshop files of the original if needed.

Looking at the list I'm impressed by how many people didn't take the easy way out and created genuine work. After reading the last couple pages of the thread you'd think everyone was cheating, but it really is just a few making the rest look bad.

I also agree with bombeiro that people shouldn't feel singled out. I much prefer having to defend my entry to having the card go to someone who cheated.

also lol at the dragon category

You guys are awesome! I wish more contests are as thorough as this.

Ah mine is coming along nicely, finally finished drawing it. Now time to learn how to color in photoshop. lol.

I'll post a worklog with the final entry to prove originality.

If people want to create lists of entries that look fishy then that is fine by me and helps save me some time if one is obviously using stolen artwork.

No need to defend your stuff... If you're using stolen images and want to redo it then go for it. If not then you are golden and have nothing to worry about.

This contest is going great and look at it this way... the more people that use images that they don't have permission to just means you have better odds to win a kick ass HIS Radeon HD 5870 graphics card!

I'm happy that the "questionables" are defending their work. I like knowing they DID create their own design. If it is questionable AND actually original that just proves even more how impressive it is :)

Ok, just so I'm on the safe side, I put together a quick proof of my contest design. Here is the process. I created the 3D parts in Cinema 4D, rendered it in Cinema 4D, and then used Photoshop to tweak it onto the video card cut out. I included a picture below:

I have updated the design in my original post (it's on page 12) and I promise that's the last update. I also included a bit about the "character" I used in my design (CyberMouse) and how I came up with the idea. Thanks again for a great contest and a great forum.
