avg gonna be 0 for a bit

Post by skier »

well as some of y'all(twitter followers) know my AMD quad hit a.....snag... lets say, and now i need a new CPU and dont have the money for it right now, so i'm using the dell with my GTS 250 for some gaming(it cant even play TF2 above 30fps because of the Pentium4) and i can't fold on it because the in-case temps(idles 25C hotter than normal, loads 20C higher) are just too high for my liking

but im trying to sell some things to get money for a new CPU, i will be back, just not sure when...

(am writing from my sisters Dell Latitude 14" 1.6GHz lappy from 2005, because she has mine)

just an update, i have my Athlon system (sig) running GPU on a GTS 250 and GT 240, and a Phenom dual core running a GT 240 and soon 9600 GSO(at some point, need to shut down next time i get kicked from the TF2 idle server im in

no CPU clients at all because i just CANT get either system fully stable for some reason, the quad gets like 20% then errors out of Notfred VMWare(VMWare actually crashed/closed last time i used it) i think temps are the issue with the quad, and the board is the problem with the dual(which idles at 20C)

Athlon II X4 620 @ 3.12GHz(240x13) - Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4 - 4GB DDR3 1600 1.5v
Phenom II X2 550 @ 3.1GHz(200x15.5) - MSI 770-G45 - 2GB DDR3 1066(1600 @1066 to make sure its not the issue)

the athlon is close to stable-the RAM is just weird, but the Phenom just wont do it with this board, i've tried overclocking, undervolting, overvolting, underclocking, called MSI but got sent around then somehow to a standard answering machine

Tried stress testing @ stock clocks?

Also consider using Linuxrouter's image instead of Notfred. I find it more stable, easier to use, and a bit faster.

for the quad normal clocks dont really cut it, its been perfectly stable at 3.25GHz but i never took a picture of the BIOS so i lost the voltages i needed and havnt got it stable since

and the dual i've been running at stock

have the GSO in the phenom dualcore system, hopefully it'll work, Afterburner wasnt reading it right i think, was reading GPU2 as the GT240 for memory usage, has the right frequencies and says 0% gpu utilization no matter what

how do i get linuxrouter's, i've been using notfred because it was really easy to setup(u have a good guide posted(copied))

With the debut of SMP2 and A3 WU, I suggest you make the switch to SMP2 instead. I made the switch and there's a drop in PPD, as you can see on EOC, but that's because the comp doesn't fold 24/7. However there's less overhead required. From the look of things, SMP2 is good for 24/7 folding. VMware folding is good for folding when the computer is in use. However keep in mind that there was a period of time when I got only A1 WU even with VMware folding. I'm not sure if there's still A2 WU available. If there is, you're in luck. The only reason I'd fold using VMware is for -bigadv folding.
