Well, it looks like that "HyperMemory" feature on those lower end budget cards was somehting ATI liked a lot. Seems it is possible to create the same environment with the video card sharing memory with the system memory all done through the software driver (catalyst version 5.7). I guess it's similar to windows using the HDD as Virtual Memory. It makes sense that this feature would work much better on PCI-Express cards rather than AGP becuase of the extra avalilable bandwidth offered by the PCI-Express x16 lanes.
This is indeed a very interesting implementation. Someone with a 6mb or 128mb ATI card should give this a shot and tell us how you like it!! I am still unsure whether or not you can disable it if you want because it seems to provide no performance improvement or maybe sometimes even a performance hit when using high end graphics cards with more memory.

Catalyst 5.7 and HyperMemory
I have a 9800 Pro on my desktop. 128MB is plenty. The GPU is what takes the hit when trying to keep up in this case.
My laptop has a 64MB 9700 with shared memory. Works like a charm with 2GB of PC3200 DDR (Dual Channel). I'll soon have a GeForce 6800 Go in here though... err.. probably a whole new laptop 'cause it requires a new MB.
