turn on your frickin' lights, people!!!

Post by -mogwai »

listen... aside from the fact that it's against the law to drive without your lights on in cloudy or inclimate weather, you could save your life or the life of someone else.

this morning, it was very rainy in the st. louis area. i was driving out of a parking lot and i looked both ways and saw no cars. well, as soon as i step on the gas to make a left turn and out of no where comes a gas guzzling asshole going about 60 on a 40 in his suv (it was black and didn't have his lights on). he swerved to avoid hitting me and actually had the balls to hold down his horn at me... as if I'M the moron for trying to drive.

i don't know about you folks, but i can't see people through a rained out window when they don't have their lights on... especially when the vehicle they're driving is dark.

so, there's my near-death experience. i still can't believe the a**hole had the balls to honk at ME! it really upsets me how there aren't signs posted everywhere to turn on your damn lights when the sun isn't shining. it pisses me off how cops don't stop these people, but they have no problem stopping people for going 60 in a 50 (flow of traffic).

PISS!!!

what's wrong with people? TURN ON YOUR M.F.ING LIGHTS!!!

been driving in the STL area now for about 12-13 years, yes some folks here are stupid, like running 80mph on I-70 get with in 200yards of the bridge slow to 55 then not get 2ft passed the bridge then right back to 80... the ones I hate the most is the person that is eating, reading the paper, and shaving and/or putting make-up on all at the same time. second in line is the one that can't get off the phone long enough to drive somewhere, its a car, not a mobile office.... HANG UP AND DRIVE.

but anyway.. I allways look both ways atleast 3 times in the rain, just for the reason that some people dont turn their lights on. hell one guy here at work told me once that he never has to remember to turn his lights on any more because threre is a sensor on his car that turns them on for him if it gets to dark...

[rant]well, i mean, it's just common sense. if you can't clearly see your spedometer or your dash, that means you need your lights turned on.

something else i can't stand about st louis drivers is that there's NO courtesy. if you find an open space between cars and turn on your turn signal, they will speed up just so you can't get in front of them. and then, whenever you're like "sorry, dick... i'm changing lanes, so quit speeding up," they honk their horn at you as if you're the asshole for cutting them off.

oh, and i just love whenever you slow down just to let someone with their turn signal on in front of you and you don't get the "thank you" wave. what's that about? it's just a little hand wave.. that's all. it takes no effort to lift your open hand up for one second.

see, maybe it just might be that i'm from the dc area and there's always traffic and people learn common traffic courtesies. i'm not sure what it is. all i know is that there is a clear difference between the drivers here and the drivers back in maryland/dc.[/rant]

No such law like that in WI. The only law is to have your lights on by sunset and until sunrise. I drive with my lights on when it rains, snows, or is foggy for the reason you just stated.

Hell, I drive with my lights on day and night. It's usually my turn signals and fog lamps that are on, but it still makes it a million times easier to see me.... plus it looks cool! :P

Excuse me? No, they're for any condition. Hell, they're called DRIVING lights on my car... Don't believe me? I'll take a picture of the box for you. I would rather have my "fogs" on at all times because you can see MORE. They spread further to the sides, unlike your headlights. My stock headlight system sucks. Without even the stock "fogs" I still can't see anything. So, they're not for the "fog" only... sorry to say.

I think some of you guys need to go back and read the forum rules and regs. I've noticed a trend recently that I don't much care for, the language (this is a site frequented by younger people), and the tone (remember, everyone has an opinion, and each one is different, but valuable).
Lets try to mellow things out a bit and focus our attention appropriately.

I'm aware that they're labelled "driving lights" on many cars, but it's a misconception that they should be on all the time. Front fog lights should only be used in fog, heavy snow, or other conditions where visibility is severely reduced and when using the regular highbeams would create too much glare. Using fog lights unnessarily is quite annoying to other drivers, like leaving your full beams on all the time.

I got an idea for you. I said one cuss word in my post that I'm aware of. Why don't you just filter them out? Makes more sense to me! :)

I'm not gonna argue with you because of obvious reasons. I just don't need to go any further. GL HF.
