does it matter?

Post by ricecooker29 »

Hi everyone
So I am totaly new to this so I am sorry if I don't use any correct lingo. haha. But I am looking for a new computer because my computer keeps shutting down. So I need a new computer that can handle modern gaming and HD video editing with Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and picture editing with photoshop CS4. Is it really necessary to get 16 gb or 8 gb of memory? Would it be sufficient to just have 4 gb? Thanks for the help.

What OS do you plan to run? If you're going to run a 32 bit OS then you might as well stay at or below 4gb because that's all the OS can address. If you're going to go 64 bit, especially W7, then I'd go minimum 4gb and maybe as much as 6gb depending on mobo, processor and how much photo & video editing you really plan on doing.

If your video and photo apps can benefit from lots of memory then I would say go with 6GB-8GB. 16GB is probably way, way more than you need.

I plan on running with Windows 7 64 bit. Yeah I was thinking 6 gb - 8 gb as well. Thanks for all the confirmation guys. I appreciate the help.

Yep, 6-8 is the way to go. I'm sure 6 will do all you need, espcially at today's Ram prices.
