nVidia to release GeForce Go 7800 GTX on Sep 29th

Post by Apoptosis »

Doesn't look like VR-Zone is under NDA with nVidia on the GeForce 7800 Go and has posted the following info:
NVIDIA is going to launch their mobile G70 to be officially known as GeForce Go 7800 GTX on Sept 29th and it will be available immediately on the day of launch. 7800 GTX Go is packed with 302M transistors and is clocked at 400MHz core / 550MHz memory. It will deliver twice the shader power, 1.6x more geometry than the GeForce Go 6800 Ultra launched a year back. It will have the same TDP as the Go 6800 Ultra and is pin compatible and comes with PowerMizer 6.0 technology. 7800 GTX Go scored 6642 and 14704 in 3DMark05 and 3DMark03 respectively compared to 7697 and 3425 on the 6800 Ultra Go.
Our Geforce 6600 Go overclocked to around 312/740 scores 2440 on 3Dmark 2005 with a Pentium M 770.

That thing is seriously crazy!
Will be interesting to see how much weight it adds and how much battery life it sucks up in real world models.

mmmmm, hyper-fragging, lol  ;wouldn't mind seeing that out as an expansion card for the notebook, would be good for a whitebox build, or at least see it come on future Asus barebone models. that's just so frickin sweet

ohhh, ok, my bad, lol; holy crap those are some hella scores  ;man, I tell ya, computer hardware and technology to me is like crack to a crackhead; I'm hopelessly addicted to new technologies, lol, so long as they kick maximum arse. Yet another reason for me to get a 7800GTX when I build my system (yes I know these scores are for the mobile GPU, but still, I know the desktop model has good scores as well); like I said above, I wouldn't mind seeing this GPU in future Asus barebone systems, then I would be extremely tempted to build one (ATI already has their high-end stuff in notebooks, mainly the X800XT, according to ATI's website). All I know is I'm beginning to see my partiality toward nVidia begin to lean some, just due to some of the items ATI is coming out with, so I believe I'll do some waiting before buying the highest end VGA solution for my desktop, but I'll probably start with the 6800GT, just to see how it meets my needs.

same here...

It looks like you better off with the 7800 then the new 1800 from ATI (only 16 pipes in ATI and more expensive too) even though roumors might not prove to be true. well, I gues will have to wait and see. for now I'm getting a 6800LE 'cause i found an article that exactly (step by step) explains how to open the remaining 8 pipes making it 16 and with some good cooling and OC pass the GT for the fraction of the price:

Is this a soft mod or hard mod?? And actually, I wouldn't mind seeing a link to this article, because it could be useful to me as well, though I want to take the GT to Ultra speeds, but it still may be possible, considering I'm going with water-cooling.

its a soft mod that works great. unfortunatelly the one I found is in polish  and involves riva tuner to open the pipes. my polish is perfect but I guess this doesn't make you feel better :P here is the link anyhow 'cause there are pics that actually explain how to do it. first is soft mode and second the hardware wersion. I know from the new egg comments and other places that the leadtek ones are softmodded so they can be opened up easier.:

sorry for polish. thats the only one i found.

Oh yeah, I remember seeing something in the review at Newegg about using RivaTuner to softmod the LE past GT speeds by unlocking the pipelines, but the big problem there is if you have defective pipelines...I think best-case scenario is if you do, you get artifacts and freezing, and worst-case, it fries your GPU. Personally, I think you're right, maybe I should quit being such a penny-pincher and grab the 7800; I've heard plenty of good things about that card, and I have great confidence that it would be a good choice. Then, when the prices go down on the ATI 1800, I'll buy it and use the 7800 in another system that I would later build, or completely set this system to the side when something much much better catches my eye and build it; but for now, considering this is the best way to go will be to get great components, despite the rise in cost to build my system...I hate to let things go to waste, lol.

yeah, its possible you cannot open all 8 pipes, but even if you open 4 it allready makes it much better. the polish mod also explains later how to raise easy the voltage from 1.4V to 1.5V with another little software called OmniFX by opening the bios of the card and changing the voltage. its to bad they dont have the article in english 'cause the way they explain things makes it easy even for a newbie.

if only Windows had an ability to translate web pages into English; I tried changing the encoding, but it didn't change the language of the text, oh well, the overall layout looks as though a newb could do something with it....someone needs to brush up on his Polish (if only he studied it in the first place, lol  )

cool, it's definitely appreciated; however, I found something that might be of some help on Hardware Analysis's website. However, I would definitely appreciate if it was more of a step-by-step thing, because that's one side of things I've not delved in: OC'ing and soft-modding GPU's. They mention using both softwares you mentioned, and even give you the amount of pipelines and vertex pipelines you can open with each of the listed brands, and it appears LeadTek is the best, at first glance, but I've also heard BFG is a great unlocker too. Anyways, look forward to seeing some more info here :)
