overclocking the i5 750

Post by ColdPlay »

Hi there!
I'm building a new rig for my son, changed my mind from an amdx6 to a intel i5 750 and my son wanted the gtx 470.
I'm using an older inwin case, adding some more airflow, but so fare only the stock cooler for the cpu.
Can I push this cpu any further on this cooler? Was thinking on a mild overclock 2,8~3,0ghz, but these chips tend to get warm right? I've chosen Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4 as mobo, so he can ad another videocard later if he wants.

So, any thoughts on this?

just touch the voltage a bit and i think you'll be surprised how far it can go, i'd say 3.2 at least on stock cooling

Thx, sounds greate! I guess 3-3,2 ghz should give a great performance boost for overall gaming!
And no temperature worries?

its basically just a Q8400 with some extra cache and a slightly better architecture so can overclock higher on much lower vcore than C2Q

and lower vcore=lower temps
