Welcome to the forums!

At first I was wondering why you are using the game port, but then I thought of joysticks and gamepads... It's rumored that in Longhorn Microsoft is dropping support for the game port all together.

I'm not sure on how to fix this on Windows x64 or Longhorn, but i do knowiece of hardware these days that plugs into a USB port and has a 15 pin connector on the other end usually called a USB JOYSTICK ADAPTER. They are made for notebook users...

Here is a popular one:

Belkin Joystick Adapter - DB-15 - female - 4 pin USB Type A - male - 8 in - F3U200-08INCH $5

Roughly $5-$8 and you won't ever have to deal with driver issues in the future!

Here is a picture of one of the adapters:

Belkin adapter

Post by Georgia in MS »

Hi, I am a medical transcriptionist. We use a foot pedal to load and listen to dictation. I had to buy a specific soundcard (SoundBlaster Live) so the foot pedal would plug into the soundcard.

I just bought a new HP ZD8230 (XP Media Center Edition) laptop with only USB ports.

I bought a Belkin F3U200 USB joystick adapter DB15F/USB A M 8 so I could plug the foot pedal into my laptop. However, when I plug the usb into the laptop, the foot pedal does not work.

Nothing else came with the adapter when I ordered it. Am I supposed to have some drivers or do I need to make some setting changes to have the usb port recognize the foot pedal??
