Wireless router recommendations

Post by CaptChuck »

I just bought my first laptop so.....
It's time to set up my first wireless connection at home. I checked but did not see much discussion as to what wireless routers are best these days (other than one mention of the Cicso Valet).

I'd appreciate any thoughts/recommendations. I'd like to keep my costs in the $100 range .

Thanks!

Not important at all.

I've had really good luck and performance from my Netgear WNDR3700. Its a little over the $100 budget (about $150) but is true dual band and has pretty good parental controls built in. In addition you can plug in a USB stick or powered HDD and have shared storage for both systems without messing with homegroups or Windows shares. I really do like this router, they have a version without the USB storage that is a bit cheaper but I can't remember the model #.

A quick update.
I went with the Buffalo Nfiniti WZR-HP-G300NH.

Pretty easy setup....Once I figured out it did not like my Firefox browser. I could not access any of the setup controls until I used I.E.

Great coverage for my 1800 Sq ft home, back / front yard, and garage.

I haven't really run any definitive thru put test but file transfers PC to Laptop are very fast (it's set at 300mbs /40 HZ).

Anyway, thanks to all for the input and suggestions.
