How does ASRock get away with their pricing? They are significantly cheaper than most of the competition with more bells and whistles. Are they doing this to get their name out there or is something else at play here? I think the next build I do, either myself or if someone asks, I'm going to pick up an ASRock board. Seems like you get more than what you are paying for.

I have had a couple ASRock boards over the years, only had one die on me and it was due to my stupidity.

I currently have an ASRock X58 Extreme3 board for my 1366 rig, I got it because it was the least expensive X58 that I could find at the time that had USB3. No issues so far.

I'm not trying to set any OCing records, but I do like to get "free" performance. And from what I can tell ASRock isn't a real slouch there either. Bubba does ASRock constantly try to improve their product, i.e. regular BIOS updates?

Not sure what would be called regular, I don't go looking for BIOS updates unless I'm having a problem.

I've had Asrock boards in my last few system aswell. You get BIOS updates about 4 times a year

I think this pretty much says it all. Im considering it for my next build. I know its sold out a the egg so its gotta be ok. Also i <3 Side SATA ports they make cable management seem so much nicer. :partyman:

I'm about to pull the trigger on a 890FX Deluxe 4 and an AMD X6 3.2ghz CPU. But I'm a bit confused on what RAM I should get. I want 8GB (2x4GB), but should I get 1333? 1600? 1800?

The MB specs say anything 1600 or faster must be OCed. The CPU specs say the mem controller speed is 1333. I'm not very knowledgable about OCing, but I'd like to bump the CPU speed a bit since it seems to take it so well (maybe up to 3.5ish) - air cooled. If I do that, is 1333 RAM going to be a bottleneck? Do you have to OC the CPU and RAM separately? I see in the review, they used 1600. If I eventually want to go up to 16gb RAM, would I need to stick with 1333 since only slots A2 and B2 are recommended for OCing?

Thanks!

If you aren't overclocking get the fastest RAM the board supports. If you are overclocking then faster RAM helps you get there. If you are planning on buying the Black Edition X6 then you can overclock just using the multiplier. Bottom line, overclocking get fast RAM, stock get the fastest the board supports.

get 1600MHz, and when it comes in make sure it sets to 1600 instead of 1333 (RAM is occasionally downclocked by default, just write down the stock frequency and timings for your RAM and enter it in the BIOS on first boot. lower timings are faster-CL7 is way better than CL9)
