AMD Radeon HD 6870 Reference Design Video Card Pictured

AMD Radeon HD 6870 Reference Design
Here it is, the AMD Radeon HD 6870, all dressed up to go to work. There has been quite some speculation surrounding the naming scheme AMD is going to adopt with the HD 6000 series, but fresh information suggestively lays some of that to rest. Firstly, Radeon HD 6800 series is built around the "Barts" GPU, not "Cayman". Barts is a new performance GPU, though isn't the highest-end single GPU from AMD (which is reserved for Cayman). Barts "XT" is Radeon HD 6870, and Barts "Pro" is HD 6850. Pictured below is the HD 6870. At a purely subjective glance, the HD 6870 reference design card seems to be as long as the HD 5850 reference.

The new Radeon logo has been Photoshopped on to the fan, so the products in market will definitely do away with the older ATI logo. The rear panel resembles that of the Radeon HD 5800 series, except that the exhaust grille seems slightly wider, there are two DVI-I connectors, one standard HDMI, and two mini DisplayPort connectors for a change. The connector output sharing scheme isn't known right now, it could be 3 or 4 head Eyefinity, or all-out 5 head Eyefinity, a yet to be detailed "Eyespeed" feature is mentioned. We will definitely know more about this card in the weeks to come.

you would think they would have 'done away with it' on the prototype to begin with, not like it's a new development

and i like how the screws on the backplate aren't straight either, reminds me too much of early Fermi...

/believe it when it launches

What is AMD thinking with this naming. So the 5770 replacement is going to be called 6870, while most likely being slower then the 5870. Why do that unless they want to intentionally misdirect customers.

didnt notice that

so 6970 cayman would be top (as 5870 now)- then they would have to bring back the X2 suffix (6970 X2). unless 6970 cayman is actually the 6870 X2, just designated as another die

The little wave is a neat touch. Not liking the naming scheme they have going on, though.

The naming scheme is terrible! I just hope that my PSU will be enough for whatever the top non dual-gpu card is named.
Cyberpower generic case
B450M PRO-VDH MAX
Ryzen 5 3600 w/PBO/OC
CM Hyper 212 EVO push/pull
Corsair VENGEANCE LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3600 CL16
MSI RTX 3060 Ti Ventus 3X 8G OC LHR
Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500GB
6GB Seagate HDD
EVGA 650BQ 650W PSU
ASUS VE278 27" monitor, Dell E2216HV (vertical)
Logitech Z533 2.1 Speakers, G935 7.1 or G435 headset
MS LXM-00001 keyboard
Razer Deathadder Elite, XBOX One Lunar Shift controller

I've come a long way from my original Core2Duo E6750 build y'all! :supz:

One week to go until the card's launch and a Radeon HD 6870 branded by ex-Nvidia partner XFX has popped up online via two high-resolution pictures. The card in question is powered by one Barts 40nm GPU, has DirectX 11 support and is supposed to be faster than the 1GB GeForce GTX 460.

XFX's card takes up two slots, and requires additional power via two 6pin PCIe connectors, has 2-way CrossFire support, a 256-bit memory interface, 1GB of GDDR5 VRAM clocked at 5000 MHz, and two DVI, one HDMI 1.4 and two mini DisplayPort 1.2 outputs. The Radeon HD 6870 should be price in the $200 - $300 range.

Looks like it's gonna be an awesome card. 5 display connectors on a video card is insane.

yeah, but remember the card can support 6 monitors with daisy chaining off the pair of mini-DisplayPort connectors.
