Samsung 6400 - 46" LED TV

Post by Major_A »

My parents picked this TV up yesterday. I played with it for a bit and I'm really impressed. For a long time I wanted to get them them a Patriot Box Office. That is until I helped set the TV up and noticed a USB port on the back of the TV labeled USB HDD. Out of curiosity I looked in the manual expecting to see that DivX was certified and and that was it. Boy was I wrong. This TV can handle MKV files up to 1080 @ 30FPS. It also plays Youtube HD clips (.MP4) just fine. I downloaded Cowboys Vs Aliens trailer off of Youtube and the picture is amazing.

There is one thing that is distracting with the picture. It seems like the picture is running faster than it is supposed to. Is this because the TV is refreshing at 120Hz?

*EDIT*
Added picture of supported codecs and details. Click the picture to enlarge it.

So they opted for 3D, nice panel

and yes.

when you are used to video recorded at 30fps, and move up to a 60fps camera it looks surreal, same deal with refresh rate

It isn't 3D, just a LED TV. Unless since it's 120Hz that it is 3D if they bought the other hardware?

The people out of focus in the background seem like they are moving too fast. It doesn't seem as prevelant when I have the TV hooked up to the 10 foot antenna in the attic and pick up HD OTA channels. Could be something to do with the SD picture coming out of the Dish Network box?

*EDIT*
I wrote to Samsung last night asking for a feature request. It doesn't seem very hard to do, but I thought I'd give it a shot.

My email:
I purchased this TV yesterday and so far I am very happy with it. I am extremely happy about the USB HDD features and the file types that it supports.

I would be trilled if you guys could come up with a firmware update that allows us to use the Pause button for media playback on live TV. I figure that if you kept an external hard drive hooked up to one of the ports you should be able to pause live TV and have it buffer/record to the drive. I'm not saying that I want the drive to be able to record for hours on end. Maybe just have a 10-15 minute buffer that allows you to use the restroom, answer the phone, clean up a kid's mess, etc...

Thanks,

Stephen Browning

Their response:
Dear Stephen Browning,

Hmm, I'll pass the info along, but first they need a Blu-Ray player.

120hz = reduced motion blur not 3D.

For some people the 120hz ruins movies because it messes with your head. Watch Apollo 13, that drove me nuts!

Are you talking about the movement that seems faster than it should be?
