SteelSeries Shift MMO Gaming Keyboard Review

Looking for an MMO keyboard to smoke the competition? Today we examine the SteelSeries Shift Gaming Keyboard that is fully customizable and designed for the professional gamer. The SteelSeries Shift supports interchangeable "keysets" which groups game commands together and has multiple programmable macro keys, making it easier to beat your competition and play like a GSL professional. Read on to see just how well the SteelSeries Shift performs in the real world.

What really makes the SteelSeries Shift keyboard unique is its ability to swap out keysets. On the right side of the keyboard is a lock which, when pulled up, allows the keys to be removed. After removing the keyset, we can see the rubber domes which are made of high quality silicone which SteelSeries claims will extend the life of the keys to about 15 million keystrokes. This also allows the keyboard to be cleaned easily with some canned air or a vacuum which I think is also a plus.

i've had 3 steelseries keyboards (7G, 7G, 6Gv2) and all of them had "chattering" problems right out of the box that got worse over time.

by chattering i mean you hit a key and 2 keys appear on the screen. very annoying and unacceptable in a $100+ keyboard.

the support was nice, they sent me a replacement but i had to pay for shipping, and the replacement had the same problem!

so i will never buy a keyboard from them again. i'm looking at xarmor for my next keyboard actually.

It's possible that you had your repeat rate set in windows to fast for the mechanical switches used on the Steel Series keyboards.

nah it was instant, way faster than windows repeat trigger. it was definitely a defect in the keyboards.

Ah, well that's odd.

I've owned the 7G & 6Gv2; never had that problem with the board. I also still own the original Z board (won it in a contest with a WoW keyset.)

I've been looking at grabbing the shift just to try it. The Z-Board was pretty nice; and it would give me an excuse to use my old keysets.

My personal thoughts they need to get rid of the long throw keys. After using a slim keyboard now for over a year now my fingers never been happier.
