P8P67 + i7-2600K idle @ 1.6GHz with 1.1++v vcore??

Post by cybersans »

hello guys.

is that normal, this processor using 1.1++v of vcore when EIST & C1E plus the EPU engine running at auto? this things suppose to give "power saving" right? but what i saw, the vcore never goes down below 1v even when idling and speedstep goes down to 1.6G

so whats happening? using latest bios for this board. still no change. probably bad processor chip? i heard that this processor suppose use less vcore juice around 0.7 - 0.8v when idling?

note: load line calibration set to auto, and after that changed to regular (0%), same, nothing changed.

anyone using i7-2600 / K that can look at this and share their experience? tq in advance.

It is in a power saving state. Once you load up the processor it will come back up to speed

i know about the power saving state, thats why i mention i already enabled EIST & C1E, and speed is downclocked to 1.6GHz when idling.

my question is, why even processor downclocked to 1.6GHz, the vcore is still high, between 1.1v - 1.2v? is it suppose to drop down to 0.8v like previous i7 model?

anyone who using i7-2600 model can share your experience?

From my experience with other core i series CPU's is that it varies from model to model and what is going on in the bg in windows itself. the 0.8v is probably for when the computer is in sleep mode.

my previous system which was i7-860 + p7p55d use 0.800v of vcore when system is not doing anything, but still not entering idle states yet. i think it will be dropped down to 0.6 when fully idle. i said this based on cpu-z monitoring when processor downclocked to 133 x 9 = ~1.2GHz and cpu wattage only 4-5W.

but this i7-2600K + P8P67 still on 1.0++v when system is not doing anything. and processor wattage still between 8-12W.

so my conclusions: whether motherboard's bios is still buggy, or processor revision/stepping is buggy. in other words, the system is not "so-called power saving" like many reviewer said! :finga:

interesting, just out of curiosity where are you getting your amp reading from?

if you missed what i wrote in previous thread, i'll type it back:
the vcore reading is from both cpu-z & realtemp & aisuite II software.
the watt usage is from aisuite II software.

update: after did some experiment, the voltage is high even though idle @ 1.6GHz when i set manual turbo boost more that x47 for single core & enable PLL overvolt. if i use less than 47, for example 46 or 45 and disable PLL overvolt, i managed to get 0.7-0.9v for vcore when idle @ 1.6GHz.

case closed!

Oh, so you had the CPU overclocked. You forgot to mention that "minor" fact. Had we known this, it would of been easy to answer your question. Giving us all the system specs (best to have it in your signature), gives us a better ability to answer questions like this.
