No Input on Windows 7 Restart
No Input on Windows 7 Restart
Here is my vexing problem:
I recently installed a new motherboard and video card, Sabertooth x58 and HIS 6950 2GB respectively, and wanted to do a fresh install of Windows 7 64 bit. The installation was going fine but upon the first computer restart I got a "no input" message on my display. All of the hardware seems to be fine, the post leds are good and the TV I have the video card connected to via an hdmi cord recognizes that something is plugged in but I get zero for an image. I did the obvious like check my power supply to the video card, switched out hdmi cords, reseated the card, switched to a different display port ect. but to no avail. The conclusion that I'm left with is that Windows 7 does not play well with my new video card. I seem to remember reading somewhere that some cards use a format that is not natively supported by Windows 7. Any ideas?

Re: No Input on Windows 7 Restart
How many inputs do you have to your graphic card? If you have more than one, disconnect the one to the tv and just have the input to the monitor. That worked for me.
Re: No Input on Windows 7 Restart
Make sure your graphics card is in the right PCIE slot. Many boards are very specific about how you populate them. I think that card used 2x PCIE power cables a 4-pin and a 6-pin maybe (I forget)...make sure both are plugged in!

Re: No Input on Windows 7 Restart
Clear CMOS and make sure the monitor is plugged all the way into the video card and that the card is in the primary slot.
Re: No Input on Windows 7 Restart
Some cards are picky about what port you have the video out connected to. My GTX 260 will only turn on the monitor if the DVI cable is plugged into the left connection. Have you tried connecting to the TV via a VGA cable? Might be something that you have to configure before it will just work.
Re: No Input on Windows 7 Restart
To be clear, when I was running the graphics card with Windows Vista there was no problem. It was only when I was doing a fresh install of Windows 7 and the computer rebooted for the first time that I lost the display. I use a 32 inch 1080p tv as my monitor and I tried four of the ports on the card including the hdmi, 2 dvi ports, and the vga port. The card is in the primary slot and all cords are tight and the power is hooked up correctly.

Did you check to see if you need a new driver?
Re: No Input on Windows 7 Restart
Did you try VGA mode, safe mode? also does the motherboard have Video?

What about Safe Mode? Is the computer inputting anything to the monitor? If it is then there's a driver issue.

Re: No Input on Windows 7 Restart
you may have to use a monitor to get it up and running, which is rather odd the AMD card should have picked it up right away. Do you have a mini DP to HDMI adapter? you can use that as well if you only using one monitor. also you can go from mini DP to DVI then run a DVI to HDMI adapter from that as well.
also did you flash the video card to a 6970?

Re: No Input on Windows 7 Restart
Apoptosis wins the Kewpi Doll! After I cleared the CMOS on the motherboard via the jumper my display came back. I was then able to reinstall Windows 7 without any trouble. One interesting side note was something that happened with my RAM. I have 12 GB of RAM using 6 2 GB DIMMS, three of which I purchased when I first bought the computer and three that I bought about two months ago. When Windows booted up I checked the system specs and only 4 GB were being recognized. I had removed the RAM during my display troubles so I figured it needed to be reseated. After reseating the RAM and using the little MemOK! button on the motherboard I now had 8 GB that were recognized. Damn. So I pulled all of my RAM out and was looking at the DIMMS one by one to see if any of them were damaged when I noticed that even though they were the same model number the timings were different! The original RAM is 7-7-7 and the new stuff is 6-8-6. After going slots 1-3-5 with one set and 2-4-6 with the other all 12 GB are now recognized. Thanks everyone for their time and ideas!

Nope it was the CMOS that needed to be cleared but thanks for posting!
