Who is getting ready for folding war 2011

Post by vbironchef »

Darkstar have you set up you big_adv points client yet? Mad_Goku, what are you up to? Wifuzzy, how are the Graphic Cards doing and how many big_adv clients do you plan on running?
KnightRid, are you planning any upgrades? Who else is planning upgrades or turning on your rigs to max out folding @ home for the folding war?

Edit: If there is no intrest in folding@home I think I will call it quits at 20K. I just don't see a reason to continue if nobody is into it.

I'm interested. Folding competition are always fun, regardless of what team I fold for. The end result is that I'm donating a bit of money and my computer performance and life for science.

However, there are some new rules to the Chimp Challenge this year, so I think I'll be stuck at HWC for the next couple months, till Chimp Challenge is over.

I may add my core i7 laptop to the mix for the war but the money tree does not let me do upgrades very often so that will be about it.

Heck the best video card I have is a GTX260 and I am still running a 8800GT on this system I am typing on lol

Still debating if I should go through the hassle of updating the f@h program. I keep hoping they release a drop in exe so I do not have to redo stuff.

I'm maxed out. I'll do what I can. Just was wondering how many people were out there getting ready to fold. Right now we have 30 active folders.

Mad_Goku, I'm right there with you. It's getting a little to warm to run my Graphic Cards 24/7. Just running Big_adv points now until it gets cooler.

Quad 560 Ti rig is up and folding. Ran through the night...all seems well. The hottest card is 73c-74c. Shaders are at 1780 mhz..they will go to at least 1900mhz...but I don't think temps will really let me get there. I'm gonna play with the cooling to see if I can crank them up a bit more. I think as long as I stay under 80C on the hottest card things should be ok for the long run.

How do you think a new Westmere-EX processor will fold? It should have 10 cores. I don't know what the speed would be.

It's the processor #2 that has me worried...

edit: Actually I take that back. 1 of those cpus equals 2ish 2600k folding boxes. Nevermind all those pesky motherboards and HS and PSU that servers seem to want. I highly dought that 4 of those cpus in a quad server setup could crack 200K+ PPD...because it would need to just to break even per $. Now if you could come across some used stuff for a resonable price..that would change things greatly. Then again ...what do I know..I could be 100% wrong. Shhhhh....my wife is coming. Whew...she didn't see the new toys. 8-[

I think we are waiting on Apoptosis. Wifuzzy is folding for Hardware Canucks for the Chimp Challenge. He should be back after that. I'm folding depending on the weather.

After nearly two months... AMD finally got things squared away on their end and will be backing this war like they have twice before. AMD has always been there for our folding team when other companies like Intel flat out say no. So, kudos to AMD for their continued support.

It looks like we need to have 5 person teams this year...

AMD is still in the process of getting retail boxed processors for us, but they should be five PHX6 1100T and five PHX4 970. Now that I know we have CPU's coming I'm going to get some boards, coolers and memory kits coming and once I get that lined up (should be way easier) we can start.

These are nice CPUs:

AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Hexa Core Processor (3.3GHz, 6 x 512 KB L2 Cache 6 MB L3 Cache- Socket AM3) - Cost $229.99 each
AMD Phenom II X4 970 BE Quad Core Processor (3.5GHz, 4 x 512 KB L2 Cache 6 MB L3 Cache - Socket AM3) - Cost $169.99 each

It also adds up to $2000 in prizes before any of the rest of the stuff!

If you guys want to come up with a method to make 5 person teams that would be great. I'm going to focus on getting more hardware.

That's awesome of AMD to do again! Random teams done by a random number generator?
