noise

I got a GTX460 and man alive this thing is soooo much loader than any other video card I have ever had. It sounds like my case is going to take flight. Are there any options other than water cooling to quiet this thing down??

Nothing but an aftermarket cooler(to my knowledge)....i don't know of any off the top of my head but Google search "GTX 460 aftermarket cooler" and you should get some results or at least some pointers.

Have you tried turning the fan speed down?
For myself when you get it around 60% or less its much more acceptable!
Try to find the sweet spot for temps and noise level!

If you're not sure how to change the fan speed try EVGA's Precision!

yeah, the GTX 460 isn't that loud eve with the NVIDIA reference cooler... Use precision to manually adjust the fan, but make sure it just doesn't get too hot at load.

good advice above for loud video card fans, but...ive installed over 20 EVGA GTX 460's and haven't heard of any of them being loud......

My self I stand on the firm belief of using aftermarket coolers, The gelid VGA Cooler Rev. 2 ICY VISION would be a great candidate for the job.

I think the auto fan control speeds it up (hence the noise) because of the heat. it shouldn't heat up in idle, which means you need to remove the cooler, clean the GPU and the cooler and reapply the TIM. your temps will be much lower and that will automatically keep the fan speed low. I also use MSI afterburner, where you can adjust the auto speed even lower (mine is @ 30% ,42C). Makes it whisper quiet

I think 70 is to much, but I think Nvidia says 90/100C is ok.

i use evga precision to adjust fan speed and with the new evga precision you can go into settings and click on fan tab. you can manually set what speed you want the fan to spin at and at what temp you want that fan to speed up to that at. am i making much sence as that was a bit of a tongue twister for me there
