my brother's christmas present
i want to build him something for school. he's a sophomore in college right now and i want to build him a good laptop, but not top of the line. he's not into gaming, but he's very into music. he's gonna need a rather huge hard drive.
also, a cool-looking case would be nice... i kinda liked the aopen 1558-jl case, but i'm not too knowledgable about laptop chassis (anyone else know that the plural of "chassis" is "chassis"?).
i was thinking maybe a pentium m 730...
please help me with a recommended build.... i don't wanna break the bank, but i want something that will last him through the next 3 or 4 years.

ill tell you what man, i love my Z63a, its light weight, high performance, and cost effective. This thing is sexy as hell, gets mad battery life im talking close to 9hrs and i dont have to sacrafice anything but gaming. something i was not looking for any way. And for storage Seagate is the way to go, they have the largest laptop drives out there with good perforamnce and great power dissapation.

The Asus M3N was a nice option for Amy's parents and can get >4 hours of battery life and even more with the optional secondary battery.

How bout the ASUS Z71V? It's plastered all over the forums.
Only sub-$1000 barebone that's got a GeForce Go6600.
Though since your brothers not into gaming, it might be useful for the PureVideo chip, I dunno.
If you're still looking, Directron has a selection of barebones also:

Mostly ASUS, but there's one from ASI.
The Z71A looks promising, has 1280x800, and has a pretty nice pricetag too.

I think all of the Z71 series support using the optical drive bay for a secondary HD or battery, so if you really wanted to, you could pack a lotta storage or juice into one of those.
Plus, they have the 915GM Sonoma chipset, the new performance upgrades to the Centrino platform are worth the price premium over older chipsets (IMO).
Edit: Gah, sleep deprivation getting to me.
