Post by Chillowt »

Has anyone else have one of these sweet burners, they have been owt for over a week and still no reviews????

Well I can say from first hand experience she cooks well @ 8 times on Verbatim media and does everything else she says she will do.

Since I added her to my household every meal she's serverd up has been great, she hasnt spilt a thing so no need for coasters so far :)

See the specs here:
http://www.nuniverse.com/1_english/3_pr ... .php?pID=3

If any one else has one or seen a review I would luv to know, thanx in advance.

Chillowt and stay cool.

Anandtech's Review
Our main concerns stem from the lack of 8X DVD+R media. While our current champion, the Plextor 708A, had no problems burning several brands of 4X media at 8X, the DDW-081 will only burn 8X certified media at 8X. The lack of bitsetting capabilities for the drive seemed disappointing also. Granted, our Plextor 708A does not support bitsetting either, but it does support DVD-R burn capabilities.

However, considering the extremely low cost of the unit, around $140, we have to give Nu Tech a lot of credit. If burning DVD-R's is not a problem, you save $100 over the Plextor 708A. Let us not forget also that Sony recently announced that their newest drive will not be supporting 8X DVD-R writes, and will debut at $270 (although the Pioneer 107 should support Z-CLV 8X). Could it be that DVD+R is pulling ahead in the “format wars”? Although it lacks the performance of the Plextor 708A, Nu Tech clearly wins the price grab.

I bought my Dad one for the SFF system I'm building him. :) Couldn't pass up an 8x burner for the price of most 4x burners! :)

I'll definately give a report when I get it all setup... the parts should all arrive at my house today, so tonight I will be busy putting it all together :) Fun,fun, fun!

Don't know if I will get to test it, mainly because I don't have any 8x media right now. I will definately let you know when I do though!

Wonder when Lite-On release their 8x DVD burner.
I heard that the currrent 411S has a 8x Laser block, so it would would be mad if the current 411S owners can patch it to burn @ 8x.

THG has a roundup of 11 DVD burners, one of them is the Nu Tech DDW-081. It's one of the best out there.

well, I have the SFF system built and running. I'm having issues installing Pinicle Studio 8 that came with my AIW 9600 Pro.... Once I get around to the DVD burning part, I'll let you know how it goes.

Just giving an update...

Hey guys DVDInfo (aka Nic Wilson) is going to add Bitsetting for the Nutech Drives :0 This is what I found

The Netfarer Forums -> DVDRRW.ORG -> DVD Format Comparisons

DVDInfoPro and bitsetting minus format, Watch this space for DVD-R/RW bitsetting.

Folks,

There is not much I can say at this time except, this is being worked on at the moment and any news on this subject will be reported here. I am working very close with some engineers on this and exploring it.

Kewl! I'll have to update the firmware.

Yes, I have burned my first DVD yesterday... it was a home video of our family Christmas in 1988!! Wow... I was really a hyper kid! So, I know that the drive works finally! :)
