Video Card Upgrade
Video Card Upgrade
My friend is looking to upgrade his agp video card. I remembered the x800 XL was a decent card for the buck, but I see the 6800 GT is the same price. I honestly haven't gotten the time to research these and their differences, but was hoping someone here could help me out. He plays a lot of CS:S and other high end games on his machine.
He saw the price of like $280 on an x800 XL and thought that wasn't bad. I believe something around that is his absolute limit though.
Which would you go with?
Thanks for your time!

Definitely go for a Sapphire X800 GTO^2 and then mod it to X850XTPE.
Of course, supplies on those are a bit limited.
But... if CS:S is all he's playing, then a $170 plain 6800 with all pipelines and shaders unlocked would probably be the best deal.
If by high-end games you mean games even newer than CS:S, then I'd highly recommend he try and pawn off his old video card and go for a $350 7800GT.

Otherwise either the X800XL or 6800GT are frickin awesome cards and should handle just about anything you throw at them. The X800GTO2 is another good one to consider as well, or even the regular 6800 like someone else mentioned.
But The ATI cards seem to do slightly better on games based on the Source Engine (Half-Life 2) so maybe the X800XL would be your best bet.
I'll let him know this. How old is it? Manufacturer?infinitevalence wrote:If you can wait untill next week im selling my X800XL with all its stuff for $220 + shipping
I'm gonna have to bring up some numbers and really compare the two.

A Personal Message or Instant Messaging conversation might be better for this kind of thing....NAiLs wrote:TTT... what's the scoop? Still selling the x800 XL?
