Need Recommendations: Cheap PSU
Need Recommendations: Cheap PSU
After my debacle with the Corsair CX430 I realized I need some power supplies setting around. I want the cheapest power supply you can find on Newegg with at least 1x6 pin PCIe connector. I don't care what brand it is. I do care that it won't go up in blue flames when I plug it in. So I need the cheapest quality PSU on the Egg. I can't find it anymore but the HiPro I had for years that just cratered was a damn good power supply for the $30 I paid for it.
Re: Need Recommendations: Cheap PSU
There's quite a bit of power supplies on NewEgg that's under $30 with a PCI-E 6-pin...and all of them aren't quality. I usually won't even go 2 miles close to these poor quality units, so I might not help a whole lot, but I'll try.
Cooler Master 460W? $20 After rebate. The lower end PSU's from Cooler Master isn't that great, but it should be good enough as a basic test unit.

Logisys 550W (more like a actual 350W-400W though). It has one PCI-E 6-pin and a single +12v rail saying 25A max. $20.

Re: Need Recommendations: Cheap PSU
Logisys scares me. I have visions of small fires and broken motherboards.
Re: Need Recommendations: Cheap PSU
If I ever want to build a quality PC I use SeaSonic. I think it all comes down to luck with the cheaper models with the odds in your favor.
This one seems ok

Re: Need Recommendations: Cheap PSU
i've had an OCZ StealthXStream 500w PSU running my overclocked Thuban system pulling 750w (with a GTX 260 and GTS 250 folding at the same time and CPU load), both survived though the OCZ unit powered right off (but did it safely )
was a really reliable backup unit, used it in a build i threw together for my brother running just a GTS 250 and E6600. too bad you cant get it under 60 now, or at newegg at all lol, but at any rate, lower OCZ units are actually decent as cheap as they are

Re: Need Recommendations: Cheap PSU
Yeah I remember a while back you could pick up a 600W OCZ ModXStream for $30 with a MIR. That would've been the way to go.
