Should work, both are Intel LGA775 compatible.

Don't waste your money. Build something newer.

I agree but an overclocked C2Q CPU can still hang with the big boys. My C2Q at 4.0GHz was hanging with an i7 920 (stock) when it came out. If the Q9400 can be had for under $100 go for it. If you're looking at it from a retail standpoint forget it.vbironchef wrote:Don't waste your money. Build something newer.
From the looks of it, the board should support the Q9400.
See here: http://processormatch.intel.com/COMPDB/ ... e=d975xbx2
But make sure you have the latest BIOS installed before you decide to swap processors.
Be sure you download and run the appropriate package.

Agree with Major_A, if the Q9400 is cheap and you are only looking for a minor speed boost, as long as it is overclockable. I don't think you can find them retail anymore as they are discontinued.
That said for $350 - $400 you could build a barebones Core i5 2500k system with 4GB RAM that should be very easily overclockable.
Of course none of my drivel answered your initial question, I think that with a BIOS update that it should work fine.

I don't think it will run on the XBX2 because the board is designed for 1066 mhz FSB and the Q9400 is for a 1333 mhz FSB. I still have this board in my back up rig, best bet may be to get a Q6700.
