what mobo to use with my prize pentiumM ?

I just won the oktober contest for the Intel Pentium M 760 Processor

does anyone know if I could use it (adaptor) with the MSI P4N Diamond Socket775 Nvidia nForce 4 SLI Intel Edition mobo that I bought from illuminati? if not then what would be the best bet for a mobo, ram and psu to build a kickass gaming system. I intend to OC use W/C for cooling and post all the results as apoptosis asked for from a winner of the contest. would be nice if I could use the msi mobo since I allready have it and think would be really nice in a SLI setup. any suggestions?

hum...

maybe use the ASUS CT-479 adapter with an ASUS desktop board with the features you want. Would be the best option in terms of performance and overclockability.

The new AOpen looks good too, expensive but it had dual chan ddr2, and pci express.

Not sure about that, but if you have a little dough to dish out (little being an understatement), and you want a really good OC, and I know capper will back me up on this one, the Exos 2 WC system would do you well. Though it doesn't come with the necessary blocks (most don't), it can dissipate 700W of heat!!!

yes, just the system is expensive, and the blocks will drive it up to around the 5 mark, but if you want the most stable OC at the lowest temp, and the flexibility of adding plenty of blocks without affecting performance, this is most definitely the top system to use. Don't forget this is a mobile processor and isn't going to be that hot when overclocked. Simple water cooling or a high quality HSF is more than enough.

even when used with an adapter on a desktop unit, and being OC'd a lot? I was to the notion that he wanted to do some decent overclocking. I know mobile processors are cool ones, but I didn't know if OC'ing it a whole lot would negate that effect or not. In that case, either simple water-cooling or the VapoChill Micro would work well in that situation, as it disperses 100W of heat, and has comparable performance to a low-end water-cooling unit.

I think he's right. Although I don't have any experience with the PM's, it is a totally different architecture specifically designed around being low power and heat output so even a Dothan at high clock speeds and moderate voltage should still run pretty cool; it only makes sense.
You may be comparing with the Athlon XP-M chips which were still desktop chips, just a lower required voltage. The PM is a unique animal indeed, but that's what makes it so frickin' sweeet! Congrats on the prize sodhan, you definatly made out good on this one!!!

yeah, I was aware that the mobile cpu's are much cooler. after an experience with prescott this should be a piece of cake

I still would like to know if I could utilize the MSI mobo (MSI P4N Diamond Socket775 Nvidia nForce 4 SLI Intel Edition) I bought from illuminati? otherwise I have to get another mobo and that would leave me with two

anybody knows if there is any kind of adapter for those mobos to accomodate a P4 M?

That CPU will only work with the ASUS CT-479 adaptor with select asus sockett 478 mobo's. Aopen have a mobo which infinitevalence mentioned.

I'm nearly certain there is no adaptor for sockett 775

what do you guys think I should get for the 760M?
the DFI doesn't look good to me 'cause it only has AGP4x and 400 FSB.

also: does the 760 have pci-e support or not? I can't seem to find info on these. have to learn everything from scratch

I think it all comes down to if you want to use PCIe or AGP...

I have a P4P800dlx(865pe chipset) & P4C800-E Dlx (875 chipset) --> both are GREAT boards... Uber stable! - they both work with the CT-479 adapter.... They suppport AGP8 - dual channel ddr - most boards can do ~250Mhz and over - so overclocking isn't a problem

the Aopen boards look good too.. except only PCIe!!!
the DFI board is no good with AGP 4 => unless.... What GFX card are you going to use? Unless your going to play @ 1600x1200 with AA/AF then AGP 4 is just about fast enough for most gaming....

Personally I would go with an ASUS board and use a CT-479 adapter..

I guess you right. asus looks better to me with higher fsb (I intend to OC the CPU) and pricewise. I just had my mind set on switching to PCI-E (7800GT?). maybe I should stay with AGP for now

7800GT?? If your budget can handle it!! --> go with PCIe now..
But that cpu with an ASUS board.... is a AMD FX killer!!!

You really can't go wrong with this setup!!!

If your not going to get a new 7800GT then the ASUS board/ adator combo is your best bet!
