Damaged DVD Drive?

Post by DJ Tucker »

i have a sony optiarc ad-7280s. http://www.sony-optiarc.eu/products/dvd ... 7280s.html
the problem i have i think is a heat issue but i'm not sure. when i put in a dvd or cd it reads the disc fine but if i'm watching a movie, after 50mins to 70mins the dvd stutters playing for 15-30secs then re-reading the dvd for 15secs then strats playing for 15-30secs again. when i take the disc out yeah the disc is warm but not hot. anyone know what the problem could be?

*Edit* this only started the last 2 weeks and was work fine before :(

Some things you could try... no guarantees though.
1) Try a different SATA/IDE cable.
2) Try a different viewer.

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html
3) Update the firmware.

*IMPORTANT* - Make sure you choose the correct drive. If you aren't sure download HWiNFO and navigate to Drives section on the left.

Did you try the DVD drive in a different SATA connection on the motherboard? I know you are running an older system but I've seen DVD drives do strange things. I had one hooked up to a SATA III connection and every burn failed. Finally moved the cable to a SATA II connection and all was well. Some food for thought...
