Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 OC 3GB Video Card Review

The SAPPHIRE HD 7970 OC Edition features SAPPHIRE’s Dual-X technology, which means it uses five heatpipe GPU cooler with dual fan to providing quiet and very cool operation during all usage scenarios. The SAPPHIRE HD 7970 OC Edition ships with a raised core clock speed of 950MHz, and 1425MHz for the memory. Its Dual BIOS switch allows users to select an even higher overclock of 1GHz core and 1450MHz memory by just flipping a switch. Read on to see how this card performs!

When it comes to overclocking we found the SAPPHIRE HD 7970 OC to be a blast to overclock. Using the SAPPHIRE TriXX overclocking utility we were able to hit 1310MHz on the core clock speed! This is a 42% clock frequency increase on the core clock and the first Tahiti XT graphics card that we have broken the 1300MHz barrier with! How can you complain with a 1.3GHz+ core clock speed that was done without any mods on the GPU cooler that came on the card?

i included the GTX 680 SLI numbers due to the GeForce GTX 690 being in the charts.

AMD doesn't have a dual GPU card yet available for the 7900 series, so I didn't do CrossFire yet. I'm glad I didn't spend the time doing it yet as Catalyst 12.7 are requiring me to re-do all my benchmark numbers. It's a full day to benchmark one card, so it takes a long time to re-do everything.

It would be great to include more video cards, but it all comes down to time. I know I wish I had more of it!
