ZOTAC has been one of the few video card companies to focus quiet computing with the ZONE Edition graphics cards series. The ZOTAC GeForce GT 640 ZONE Edition is the latest graphics card to be released in the noise-less series and we have one of these cards to try out. The Zotac GeForce GT 640 Zone Edition uses the NVIDIA GK107 'Kepler' 28nm GPU that has 384 CUDA cores (shader units) and 16 ROPs. This card is clocked at 902MHz and does not feature a boost mode. When it comes to memory you'll find that this card has 2048 MB (2GB) of DDR3 memory that runs on a 128-bit memory bus. Most mainstream and high-end cards today use GDDR5 memory, but DDR3 memory is less expensive to use.

I don't understand who the target market is for this? People who walk into Best Buy for a new video card?

Another negative (besides the lack of the mini-hdmi adapter) is although it is being marketed for HTPC uses, there is no provision for low-profile brackets, so folks with flat desktop-style HTPC cases can't use it. Also I think its' pricepoint is too high for just HTPC uses. This is an entry-level card that shouldn't be priced over $60 IMHO (sorry, Zotac).

HD7750 slaughters the GT640 and costs the same. Even GTS450 does and it's cheaper. Obvious advantage (for some) is, this thing is passive.
They should bundle a figurine when poked - an admiral Ackbar -figurine that, when poked, plays a recording saying "It's a trap".

Misplaced if they were really attempting for the HTPC market. Price and size would drive most to look for another card. Also disappointed with the lack of the mini-hdmi adapter. See several card makers cut corners on these. Either way, the fanless card is a nice start.
