Headphones?

Post by Pesto »

Ok, here's the deal. my birthday is coming up and I figure why not finally get a Nice pair of headphones. I've been searching through various brands and models I've never heard of before and they actually have headphones for $800!!!

I was thinking around $50-$70 cause I just listen to some MP3's, Play some games, and use it for my guitar. a Mic boom would be nice, but not necessary. Does anyone have any personal suggestions from experience they've had in the past with particular headphones? or perhaps a review of something you saw that looks promising.

I would really appreciate any help/advice/comments.

I've been an audiophile enthusiast for 25 yers now. with a pair of sennheiser's you can't go wrong. they make the best headphones. of course in this price range you have to choose one of their lesser models but even those are better then the rest in that pricerange. so choose a sennheiser.

thats because you weren't in to high end music listening. sennheiser in headphones is like rolls royce in cars. have you ever seen a rolls ad? no? thats because when something is soo exclusive you don't have to advertise. now, contrary to rolls royce sennheiser does have cheaper middle and low end models but those are allso pretty much better then the competition. sennheiser only makes headphones as far as I know so in fact they specialize in that.

Sennheiser all the way..... I just tried 4 different sets, and these are the most comfortable best sounding headphones I've ever used.

I've got the Sennheiser PC160's and I love 'em! I needed a new pair for years and looked around for quite some time. I spoke with some people and they recommended the PC150/155's for a while, but then I saw that they had a new model coming out... which is the one I ended up buying.

I didn't care if I had a USB headset or not... besides, the USB ones cost a lot more than your traditional headsets. I bought them the day they were released and they were sold out only hours later!

One big thing that made me choose the PC160's is the "large" speakers. I can't imagine what the PC150/155 headphones look like. I expected something large like my old Labtec headphones, but they are still a nice size.

I recommend the HD497from Sennheiser, but these leak alot of noice ( open can)

if you want no sound escaping then i'd go for the hd202

both of these are from sennheiser.

when i got my hd497 i found a site selling them for 39$ so they are pretty cheap and within your budget.

maybe he should clarify whether he wants a headset or headphones......I think we all agree on Sennheiser. I was going to buy the 165's but they were sold out almost as fast as they went on sale....so I bought the 155s and love them

heard of Sennheiser, but never had the pleasure of owning a pair. Might invest in a set sometime, though what I would invest in first would be a headset with a mic, sorta like the Xbox communicator, just due to the fact that when I start doing some good multiplayer gaming on the PC, I want the mic right in my face sorta. Now, if they make something like that for the PC (Sennheiser I mean) I would gladly dish out dough for that :)

edit: oh crap, just saw the link capper, lol, those look fricking awesome :)

From the sound of the description (mic boost) I'd say he's looking for a headset. :P

Though... the terms get jumbled up in so many ways so I guess either headphones or headset with a "+mic" works, lol.

In which case, the Sennheiser PC 150 would be a good choice. It's of the "budget" luxury class, lol.

Can't go wrong with 90 reviews and a 5 star average rating.

Looking at the specs, the PC150 and PC155 are identical except the PC155 is USB and doesn't require a sound card (built in I guess), not sure how much CPU the USB version eats up though.

I swear by my MM Gear 5.1 headphones. They are basically zalmans, but since they sold them to the customer instead of zalman, they are cheaper.

I love my pair. I got them for 33.99 2 months ago, but that deal is gone. This the other deal zimzoomfly has.

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDe ... ode=293001

Other sites list that deal for 160.00 if you do a quick google search.

I tried those Zalmans and really didn't like them.... the sound quality was okay, but they got really uncomfortable after about 15 minutes (but I'm a wuss when it comes to my eyes and ears)

I get here, and the thread's already covered, Sennheiser mensioned, and no promotion of 5.1 headphones. :)

Grado makes awesome headphones too, but mostly higher end stuff, they don't have much cheap stuff.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, from what i found im pretty sold on either of these 2:

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDe ... ode=386017

and

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDe ... ode=286031

but the first one (HD280) has some amazing specs compaired to the others which is why i figure i can go a tad out of my price range here...

the second (PC160) has a mic but doesn't have very comparable specs to the HD280. and i know the human ear can only hear a certain range of frequency which the HD280's exceed. so i'll probably pick between these two as i count down the days to my birthday... :)

Remember that the HD280's are a professional headset, meant for like recording studios and whatnot. They're probably great for the casual person, but also probably heavy on the head if used for extended periods of time. The PC160's are a great gaming headset. 15Hz is damn fine for a little headset, but you'll always get lower with the more professional style headphones.

thats a great point Nails, and something I think people overlook when they are shopping for headphones.
I love the 155s because they are so comfortable for long periods of gaming, while still providing great sound. As far as "Surround Sound" or 5.1, I've got a pair of 5.1 headphones, and they are nothing special, the 155s sound just as good with the ability to tell direction and distance..... and if you have a sound card like the Creative X-Fi or HD audio, it really doesn't matter.
