Valve's Steam Hardware Survey!!!

Post by gvblake22 »

Just reinstalled my Steam to play some games and it asked me to participate in a survey and the results are pretty interesting actually!
Here is what the hardware profiles of over 800,000 people using Steam looks like!!!!

http://www.steampowered.com/status/survey.html

Looks like Intel has a slight lead over AMD in the processor market with about 52% compared to AMD's 47%

I also found it intersting to see that the most popular video card is the ATI Radeon 9600 Series cards!!! (9.55%)
I know I owned a 9600pro 128mb and it was a really great card, especially when it's modded beyond recognition!!!

I had to remove Steam due to it wanting to tell me about a great new addon coming soon right in the middle of me playing WoW.

That damn thing has killed me more times that I care to remember....

You can disable those annoying popup messages in the settings you know...

The small blue ones I cut off from a heatsink included in a memory cooling kit. Kinda like this:
http://www.bestbyteinc.com/prodinfo.asp ... SK-TTA-MCK
The two large silver heatsinks on the back are from a stock AMD socket A heatsink :)

All the bottoms of the heatsinks were lapped up to 1200 grit and applied with Arctic Alumina Thermal Adhesive.

The crazy thing was they actually worked!! They didn't increase my memory overclock a whole lot (like 15mhz I think), but they chips were SOOO hot before, and after the sinks, they were still warm at the base, but even the tips of the fins on the large silver RAMsinks were warm!
As you can see, they are very large, almost hitting my memory in my socket A system!!!

I need the tall ones! so it's socket A... they will be perfect for my 6800LE mod complimenting the SI-97 :P
tomorrow I will get one from a used computer-parts store. I need to change the stock ram fins because they do overheat after a while when set to 1100mhz :( I will update my mod with pics as soon as it's ready
what did you use for cuting? :finga: :drinkers:

I used a regular hack saw, but it was very hard and time consuming. If you have a power band saw, I would recommend that

And I'm sure you could really use just about any stock AMD heatsink. I just happened to have an extra socket A one around. But the one I had was nice because on each end of the heatsink they had the section of taller fins; and those were the ones I cut off to use on the RAM on the card. The width was already prettymuch perfect! :)

Can't wait to see some eXtreme cooling updates! :drinkers:

Yeah they finally got rid of the "512MB-1.0GB" and "1.0GB-1.5GB" error...but they said 999MB! How could they? 1GB = 1024MB!
