New PSU!

Post by DJ Tucker »

So I looking at getting a modular PSU for my RIG as my current PSU has stupid amount of unused cables making my RIG look a little messy. So, I can get a corsair hx1050 80+ gold for £100 brand new. I know that is overkill for my current system but I am planning on getting either gtx 780ti or a gtx 970 next month and going sli in the future. what do you guys think?

Sounds nice to me. From what Nate said the the 980 review, the 970 is a nice unpower hungry card. I have been reading in SLI it is still low power compared to a lot of others so you should have some nice overhead with that PSU!

Also be sure to give the EVGA SuperNOVA G2 series a look.

I'll have to put two up in SLI to see what the power draw is.

i like the evga supernova but for the price of the hx1050 (£100) I can only get a 850 g2. while that 850 would be enough, I plan to keep this PSU for a while and so the extra 250 watts over my current PSU would stop me having to worry bout losing power over a long period of time. I have had my GS800 for 3.5 years now and I'd say it's lost 10% or so of it's 800watts.

well I'm talk 3-5 years and only about 50 watts or so but even still capacitor aging is also a problem if not looked after well.
