Full system load temps!

Post by DJ Tucker »

So today i decided to load my cpu and gpu to 100% at the same time for around 1 hour to recorded my max cpu and gpu temp. After a lot of benchmarking i found that port royal (3d mark) demo run used by far the least cpu averaging around 14% load. I was able to load the cpu and gpu to 100% using port royal for gpu and cpu-z stress for cpu at the same time to give me a full insight as to the absolute max temps i would see while gaming.

Temps after 1 hour are as follows:

Ambient 21c
GPU 49c
CPU 65c
Water 29.1c
Fan Speed 1500rpm

While that was running i decided to run prime 95 non avx right after 1 hour had passed to see what temps i would get. It started at 70c before dropping to 66c as waters temp cooled due to no gpu load.

I then decided to run prime 95 avx right after prime 95 non avx and got 84c. i know prime 95 is overkill for cpu's when compared to games but i like to see what my cooling is capable of. During the summer ambient room temp got to 27.5c so i guess cpu, gpu and water temps would have rose my 6c or so.

Overall i'm happy at those temps but i have seen people with lower prime 95 avx and non avx temps on a custom loop with a more power hungry cpu. So maybe my temps aren't as good as they could be?

To me your temps seem to be pretty good!
Although the 84c is pretty high, its not that bad considering you ran Prime95 AVX right after Prime95 Non AVX!
Running those back to back is probably considered CPU Abuse!

IMHO....Comparing your system to any other is futile!
It would be rare to find 2 systems exactly the same and one difference in the 2 can make a big difference!
(ie: Fans, Radiator, Tube Lengths, Pump or Case!)
Also, 2 CPUs of the same model can/will be different in their possible clock speeds(OC) and temps!

I am by far no expert, but your temps are good! =D>

A lot of people are saying my temps are good. the only thing the has me thinking my temps aren;t great is due to my primew 95 avx temps being a good 5-6c higher than a lot of others out there on air?

Try running Prime95 avx after 30 mins(or more) of idle time! If you havent already!

So i sorted my voltage out so that under avx load the voltage didnt jump so high. 1.292v 4.8ghz for avx is high seeing as i was getting 1.232v non avx. I was silly using offset -70mv with llc set to level 3. so i played around a lot and found llc level 5 with offset at +5mv gave me 1.2v non avx and 1.232v avx.

Temps using the same method as before gave me these results:

Ambient 21c
GPU 48c
CPU 58c
Water 28.9c
Fan Speed 1500rpm
Prime95 avx 75c

So far no crashes is any cpu demanding games like warzone bf5 gtav and breakpoint. Happy days.

New system new overclocks and new results. CPU (4.8ghz Previous) 4.9ghz 1.232v non avx, 4.9ghz 1.264v avx. GPU (1965mhz previous) 2010mhz 0.962v
Temps using the same method as before gave me these results:

Ambient 21c
GPU 50c
CPU 62c
Water 30.4c
Fan Speed 1500rpm
Prime95 avx 78c

I'm impressed with the results as my rads are now exhaust instead of old system intake. From air through rads at 21c (ambient) to 25c (case) with a slightly higher overclock across the board. That's not half bad. to get an increase of 2c on gpu and 4c on cpu and 1.5c on water. happy days :)

Impressive! Nice OC with minimal rise in temps!

I went with Intake on my rad fans too, even though I really wanted it to be an exhaust!
Corsair recommended the fans set as intake, so I went with that!
Most of my builds have been air cooled, so Exhaust has always been the way to go, water cooling makes me nervous! 8-[
Now I wish I had installed the temp sensors with the Commander Pro! Sounds like another project to add to my list!

I never liked setting my rads as intake as I still think it causes excess heat inside the case on other components not in the water loops! I understand the reasoning as the air inside the case is probably warmer than the air outside so drawing hotter air over the rad will cause water temps to be higher but I still dont like it :)
Remember, I am opinionated and nothing I say or do reflects on anyone or anything else but me :finga:

intake is best for water temps and therefore gpu and cpu temps. Another project is on the way. i'll keep my eye out for the post in the future :)

I did notice my internal ambient temps have reduced by around 4c going to a negative pressure setup. Which in theory should give me lower water temps but then i have my rads as exhaust and internal temps are 25c as apposed to the 21c from the ambient room temp. So i put my clock speeds of my cpu and gpu back to what i had in my desk and i got 29.4c on my water temp. So my water temp has increased by 1c in this case. In all fairness i do have an ek se 360 rad that has a much lower wattage of heat dissipation over the magicool g2 slim 360 i had. So that would give me higher water temps overall. will be increasing my fan speed to see if my water temps lower over the same period of benchmarking as i have done so far.

One of the reasons I am considering flipping the fans is because,
I do not have a GPU or much else to worry about overheating!

If/When I flip the fans I will install a couple of the temp sensors!
