whats going on

ok i got things working for now on my old ide hard drive....
(sata thing is still wierd)

i have an AMD x2 3800
ATI x850pro AGP
2 gigs ram

i max out fps in Q4 on high detail @ 800x600, but i get like 20-30fps in BF2:SF in medium detail, what is the heck is going on?!??!? What am i doing wrong or setting wrong?!?!?! any ideas?!?!

have you downloaded the latest BF2 patches? You also might want to try to tinker with some of the settings under Control Panel, as well as download something like ATI tool.

i have no aa or af on. I just find it wierd how the one game that isnt really all that graphic intensive gets the worst frame rate. all my other games i get 60+. LOL

What video card did you have installed prior to the ATi card? Did you use Drivercleaner and updated to the Catalyst 5.11's? I had some problems with a couple old files on my drive and it did something very similar to what you describe.

Comparing such a lean mean monster of an engine by Carmack and comparing performance to an engine by a bunch of 2nd rate programmers who can't even get a simple thing like key bindings right is a tad unfair ain't it?

It is rather odd that I also get 20-30 fps @ 800x600 on my system and on HIGH detail, lol. Results based on the BF2-Demo, which I assume should be pretty close to SF.

Yeah, definitely try out the new 1.12 patch.

@ nails,
this is a fresh install of a temporary system on a backup harddrive so right now i used the cd that came with the video card. in my past i havent found that updates on ati stuff havent improved performance by much.

and yes i have the 1.12 patch and it stinks to high heaven!!!! it doesnt support dual core and makes the game crash. you have to add the little program and mod the exe in order for it to only use a single core so it wont crash.
