c3d x800gto unlocked and problems with programs?

Post by dgood »

I Recently bought my new computer
chaintech vnf4 ultra
amd 4000+ san diego
connect 3d x800gto
2gigs of dual channel ram

Anyway, I unlocked the bios in the video card to boost my pixil pipes from 12-16, and put on an after market cooler in the arctic silencer for the x800's. so I am also running xp pro x64 edition so I"m not sure what is causing the hang ups. However, 3dmark05 and Unreal 2004 seem to cause my computer to hang up. I was going to try turning ut down but I don't think I should because my 2200+ xp could run it with a 9600 regular on full settings with a gig of ram. So I wanted to know waht could be causing this, the drivers for x64 edition, the bios flash, or something else, I also had to mod my mobo to fit my video card in right I had to shift the fan on the heat sink over a bit and screw it back in there, since it just screws into the gaps in the heatsink. thanks for whatever help you can offer. -Dgood :ANAL:

I have recieved error messages after rebooting, vpu recover didn't kick in as it did on my 9600 in the past, it just froze up. it said it was a driver error, but I find it hard to believe because both the 5.11 driver for x64 and the 5.11b beta drivers (5.12) have frozen. are there omega drivers for x64?

I know it may be a dumb question, but did you test to make sure everything was in working order at stock before attempting these mods?

If you didn't, flashing the card back to its original state may resolve the issue.

NO, but I was hoping I wouldn't have to :p

Post by dgood »

I didn't have 64bit drivers before I did it so I had to get them after so no I was hoping to avoid the flash back but I will if I need to. any other ideas before I try it, because quake 4 plays on 1600x1200 with 8x antianalysing no lag at all.

Well, there's also the other 2 facts:

1. the X800GTO is based on the R423 core, the GTO2 is based on the R480 core, which is guaranteed by many to unlock the pipes. The R423 core hasn't been established, and from what I've heard, to be hit-and-miss on unlocking the extra pipes.

2. from what I know, the x64 OS has very little driver support, thus the reason for Vista. could be a driver incompatibility issue with x64 as well.

I'm more willing to bet it's a driver issue over a pipe issue. You can try flashing the card and reverting the settings to see if it works, as a test of whether or not it's even compatible with x64, but I really think it to be a driver issue.

did you happen to look at what chip was on the card when you replaced the heatsink? that would help me to know what kind of unlock you can do, and how far it will OC. I would guess that its either R423 or R481, but it could be R430.

same as what I thought

Post by dgood »

However on the 423 core unlock, I know for a fact it works, go to techpowerup.com it is a liek 90% sucess rate and I believe the ones that failed were due to user ineptitude, not the card. and maybe less than 1% being the card. it tells you how to check it and do it all. -dgood

that's the reason why I was leaning more toward a driver issue. I didn't know it already had an established success rate. Man, what a week does to you, lol. You gotta be on top of tech daily otherwise it engulfs ya, lol

423 core I believe, an dyou can check with ati tool.

Post by dgood »

I could check, yes it is a 423, and it oc's a little, not much, it only has 2.8 ram os only rated for 1ghz, I have mine slightly overclocked but the issues started before the oc. ( the hangs that is) the core doesn't overclock too well either least not with ati tool.

thanks for the opinion

Post by dgood »

I'll just try the dna driver and see how it runs and if it still hangs I'll see if I can get a longhorn beta or something. that would be sweet to run vista on this anyway. btw that was a thanks to everybody who posted anything on the topic. -dgood

would most definitely go for the dna driver....it's a modded driver right? the funny thing is that sometimes modded drivers work better than what's included prepackaged with the unit, or could fbe found on the company website, but it takes talent to code it, or at least understanding of how to edit lines of code like that.

did you use the c3d bios, or the gto2 bios? also check your memory again, it should be samsung 2.0ns it will end with -20 thats how you know.

used unlocked bios for c3d x800gto from techpowerup

Post by dgood »

I used there bios for only unlocking the pipes, nothing else. So maybe I shoudl try the x800xt bios? or whats your thought? it is 2.0 I just rmember that 2.0 is rated for 1ghz and the smaller number is rated to go higher isn't it?

yeah, 2.0ns, 1.8ns, 1.6ns, 1.4ns... I would not try any other bioses. I would try flashing using the C3D bios again or maybe even trying the factory bios.

reformatted and tried reflash, nothing

Post by dgood »

so I even reformatted to xp regular to see if it was a 64bit driver thing. so now I begin to wonder. I also reflashed my video card to the original bios, and still didn't help. The computer freezes and I can't get back to windows when playing ut2004 and also using 3dmark05. I do not understand. could my south bridge be overheating? cuz I was worried about that because the heatsink didn't seem very comforting and also I had to off center the fan to fit my gpu in my comp. Any other thoughts I want to play ut I love the game. other than that everything else works. so far that is. bf2, civ iv ( though shut down randomly after about 1.5 hours), quake 4.
