x800 xt pcie bios?

Post by dgood »

Do you think it would make a difference at all to use the xt bios? because most mod sites out there have done the mod with that bios not the merely unlocked bios off of techpowerup.com's bios archive. -dgood

Figured it out and now it works except the fix...

Post by dgood »

fixed the video card/gaming problem, now have my x800 gto unlocked ot xt oc'd to 570/540 (1080) and it runs great, racked up a 6580 on 3dmark05 and that was with my ram being all screwy at 333mhz instead of teh ddr 400 it should be. for some reason to fix teh problem I had to update my mobo bios, on my vnf4 ultra. However when I did that, it caused my computer to auto configure my ram to 333mhz instead of 400, and when I changed it to 400, it showed it in the bios but when it loaded windows I got it to freeze loading windows. so I restarted adn put it back to auto and am running at 333. should I revert to 1.4 and see if it all works? cuz I changed from the stock 1.0 to 1.5 because it was the newest release. I also sent a message to chaintech. _Dgood_

So the memory was the problem not the card?

What brand and series RAM are you running? It tends to happen that cheap, generic RAM has chips that failed a QC test at one point or another, thus could be causing the downclocking. Value series RAM can do that too (found this out once with a 256 Corsair VS module, wouldn't stop with the BSOD's, went to test the memory on a hardware tester and found problems). So, to restate the question, what brand and series, lol 8)

so you're running 4 * 512MB then? someone might have already stated this and I didn't catch it, but did you try running your mem at 2T? some boards do not like having all DIMM's occupied, especially if it's double-sided memory (related to the number of banks compared to the type of module). Try that first, and if it works, then there you have it. If not, then I would see if just a gig would run. Testing different configs in boards is key sometimes. If neither work, then yeah I would assume the latest BIOS is having a conflict with the memory, and would try reverting it to the version below it (1.4, right?). I recommend testing the memory side of things first given the issues that can arise from flashing a BIOS (might work the first, second, third time, but that fourth time can get you....just a figure of speech, lol).
