Problem Much?

i installed my new 630 into my P5P800 last night, got everything working perfectly, installed all the asus stuff and anything that i needed too, and it worked fine all of 3 hours i was on it...

then i go to turn it on today, and loads windows, i log in, and crash, so i figure maybe it needs more voltage, although i havent overclocked it yet, so i boost it up to 1.5vcore (on air thats close to max for me), and same thing, so then i clear cmos and everything nothing changes, still boots and closes the second windows starts doing stuff

by my calculations (guessing really) it could be a few things
1- hard drive is crap, its long due for a crap out on me, as it has been slowing down alot and being, not so good (dont wanna get to technical for ya :D)
2- my OCZ powerstream is putting a little too much pressure on the hsf (almost resting on it) and thats causing some fluctuations causing it to hit a high temp for a second and shut down
3- (long shot) im only using a single stick of DDR500 512mb (at ddr400 speed which doesnt matter tho)

anyone got any ideas, as im lazy and would rather go at this all at once than to do it one time after another after another :D

have you tried making a boot cd with memtest on it to see if your memory is stable? I would try that first as memory is all to often the culperate.

What P4 were you using before, it could be related to the disable bit stuff.

when it crashes what does it do? reboot? bsod any info it gives? like one of them 0020:000000000 4100000000000 type things?
without as much info as possible its just stabbing in the dark.

there is no BSOD...which i wish was the case

its not the ram ive realized, as ive tested it in my other system and it boots, and tested that systems ram in mine and does the same thing

so ive now figured out that it is not the ram, but thats not good, now i gotta find what is the problem

this board was RMA'd so it is actually a brand new board

anyone got any ideas?

Im thinking it could be windows... you may need to reload widnows. You could try a liveCD of linux with some stress testing and see if its stable on that, that would tell you that its your OS thats unstable.

so it looks like im going to have to load windows on my 200gb drive now.....since i dont have a linux disc

I think its got something to do with the change in P4, i could be wrong, its just a feeling.

i think that too...but then i have a felling it might not, as it did run perfectly for me 2 nights ago and it does boot (if it was the P4, wouldnt it just not boot?)

plus this board has only touched the 630 and only the 630, new board (from RMA) new chip (from trade)

When you say the PSU is up against the HSF, It could be heat....
have your tried underclocking and lowering the voltage? (i'm sure you have re-seated the proc, and re-applied some AS5)

do you you have a voltmeter? If so check your 12v rail....

When windows is booting, try pressing F8 and choose Safe Mode. If you can get into safe mode check event viewer.

sorry for back to back to back....but

this is one error that seems to pop-up every time that it would shutdown:

Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 80576f73, parameter3 f7fa599c, parameter4 00000000.

anyone know what this is?

I didnt read it totally. i did a search for 1000008e and found that long thread. one thing was said something about a problem with one of the ram slots. also, one person said they left the comp off for a long time, like 12 hours (dont know why that would really change anything) and said it worked fine after. i dunno, just a thought to look at.

well the ram slot thing doesnt apply to me because ive had 1 stick in every possible slot and it wouldnt work, and then had 2 sticks in any possible combination and it wouldnt work so scratch the ramslot idea

and the leaving computer off, well it gets left off for 10-15 hours at a time, and in this span it was left off for a good 24-36 hours, so scratch that one

i will look through it now though
