I'd have to say the most disappointing game I've ever bought was Freelancer. It had such potential and it seemed like there was a good deal of hype surrounding it, but I didn't think it lived up to it's potential. It had great graphics and an amazing universe with an economy and stuff, but the storyline and playability of the game could have been much MUCH better. Am I glad I bought it, Yes, because it was still fun to play a couple times. I would still recommend it as a fun game to play, but it had so much more potential and Microsoft really let me down.
DAMN YOU M$!!!

Yeah, I know I really liked playing it, but it was disappointing in the sense that once you played through the storyilne, there were no other "unique" type missions. And the fact that you HAD to play through the whole storyline or else you couldn't do everything else was a let down too. I would have liked to see playing through the storyline optional and if they really wanted to back up what they said abou "You can be a pirate or a merchant or a police or whatever", they should have made storylines or a string of missions for other major factions. Instead, the only thing you could do is buy some better guns/ships and just play the same little dogfight instances over and over with slighly higher difficulty. Playing those little dogfight missions over and over is only fun for so longNobahar wrote:Are you kidding? I love Freelancer- Microsoft let it down but the game was solid and I haven't played a space sim/rpg that even gets close to how awesome that game was.
My biggest letdown was Halo 2.

I was hoping Freelancer would be that game that you could seriously play for days and months and still have new things to do. But it was not, and that's why I was disappointed.
Hi All,
I'm mostly play Simulations like the Silent Hunter series or IL2. I however liked Call of Duty, & thought that Brothers In Arms would be good. Man was I dissappointed. It was so tedious, & every situation was so repetative.
However with the aforementioned Sims, there are a lot of different senarios that can be played through,as well as folk who create add ons. Also most Sims have mission editors that allow you to create your own missions.

Overated...
I really was disappointed with the Rainbow 6 series...I gave up on them after the third installment and I assume that it is as tedious and the AI is as bad as ever...but boy were the first ones overated.

The same....
Half-Life 2 here.
Snoooooze fest. I about fell asleep half-way into the game.
There's innovation, and then there's just filler "we did it just because we could" material.
If I wanted Mario Kart + Wave Race 64 + The Incredible Machine + Super Mario Bros. in one game I would've just downloaded one of those 3rd party mods for HL. I barely got an ounce of fun outta that game except maybe the part with the antlions, and that was rather short lived considering your control over them was pretty limited.
I would've said DOOM3, but it was hardly overrated everything considered, after it was released that is, I never preorder, lol.

luckily i have not "bought" any game that i have been dissapointed in. I have played plenty. played doom 3 at a buddies house...so glad i didnt buy that thing. C & C generals was pretty blah. i would have rather played red alert 2.
comp specs- too lazy to make a cool looking sig... MB:GIGABYTE GA-MA790XT-UD4P, AMD Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition 2.8Ghz, CORSAIR TW3X4G1333C9DHX 4GB PC3-10666, ASUS Radeon HD 4870 512MB, SB audigy gamer, WESTERN DIGITAL Caviar Black 500GB, antec P180 case (extra 120mm fan and 80mm fan), Corsair HX Series 620W: ASSEMBLED June 2009

Well, most people don't buy Half-Life 2 for the singleplayer anyway, it's all about the mods.gvblake22 wrote:REALLY?!![]()
I was hoping to get HL2 after christmas![]()
Guess I'll have to look into Guild Wars instead...

Of course, the inevitable nude mods probably helped along sales because people are pathetic like that.

Oh yeah, and Camper-Strike or whatever it's called. I never really found any of the mods to be particularly fun so I just sold it to a friend, HEAT wasn't bad, but there just aren't enough people or players for any of the really innovative or interesting mods, depends on your tastes though I guess.

Thats how I felt about it.capper5016 wrote:Doom 3 was a dark and monotonous game..... same thing over and over again.......I only keep it around for benchmarking.
The first level or two was great. After that, it was the EXACT SAME SH!T over and over again.
Although the very last level was pretty cool.
Overall, one of the most overrated games ever. And a big letdown too.
