Hello
Hello
Believe it or not, I'm posting here to introduce myself
I just recently found these forums while googling around through various tweaking and review guides online.
I'm 20, Computer Engineering student, thinking of upgrading from a Desktop I built 4 years ago (and am really grateful it served me for so long without problems and is still capable of playing latest games (although with a lot more slowdowns and at medium settings)). So here are the specs for my desktop (same as 4 years ago, no upgrades have been done):
Northwood Penitum 4 1.8GHz (My motherboard's BIOS allows no overclocking, so I tweak the frequency to 2.2 through Windows when need to)
512 MB PC2100
GeForce 4 Ti4400 (128 MB)
120 GB 7200RPM HD + 30 GB 5400RPM HD
300W Power Supply (I know that's puny, but didn't have the need for more yet)
And a recently obtained laptop from my mom which she stopped using:
Dell C640:
1.7 GHz Pentium 4-M (was thinking of doing the wire trick but then read that it only works with 915 chipset and this Dell has 845 one)
256 MB PC2100 (I'll buy more soon)
ATi Mobility 7500
30 GB HD
As you can see my Desktop really needs an upgrade now, but 4 years ago it was a monster. As for hobbies, I have too many to name.

Welcome to the forums... ahhh the great Intel Pentium 4 Northwood... the last of the great Intel CPU's. Man at 16 you had a killer rig! Wait till you get out of college and get some money to afford a new one! I was always so broke in college.
Just curious did you build that rig 4 years ago yourself?

Yep, I calculated the price of making my own computer and buying one, and decided to build it myself. I actually bought that Northwood CPU about a month before I found out that it was the best CPU for overclocking at that time (easily overclockable to 2.6 GHz from 1.8 ). And then when I learned more about computer assembly I wanted to kick myself for buying a cheapass Biostar M7SXF which crippled any overclocking ability I could have had. Also, at that time Ti4600 was the best Nvidia videocard, but since it cost over $100 more than Ti4400, I decided to buy Ti4400 since it's basically an underclocked Ti4600 and Nvidia gives you the overclocking utility anyway.
