NEED HELP, power supply broken? :edit: problem solved

Hey guys i recently ordered one of those Hiper 580W modular power supplies and i seem to have run into a problem. I bought the power supply and then a power supply tester along with some fans for my new case, i thought i would try and test the power supply and this is what happened.

I noticed that everything was reporting alright and then i notice that the -5V isnt working right. And i noticed one of the pins was missing from the mainboard connector. I took some picture and i hope you guys can see what im talkin about.

Ignore the Date Please, camera needs reconfig

Also what should i do with this?

Not sure on this... but we do have a few electronic guru's in here that my know enough to help you out... But this does seem to be an odd one...

I e-mailed Xoxide as well, where i purchased it from.

But after lookin at several review websites it looks like none of the hiper;s have a wire there, and none of the reviews mention -5V, i dont know if its a thing of the past or not because my 2 older power supplys have a wire there. But i was snooping around in the hiper manual and it talks about +5, +12, -12, and +3.3 but no -5

Check the specs on the side of the PSU....it shows seperate voltage "rails"

If it doesn't show any value for -5v then your fine.....

My Antec Neopower doesn't have a -5V rail...It's not required nowadays.......

(the reason I know the antec hasn't, is I got a DDR booster for the ram I won here....the booster requires -5v to display the voltages on the LED display)

Thanks a bunch, heh im not a whole lot familiar when it comes to power supplies but i know thats what was holding me back on my current system so i bought the Hiper 580W modular for my new computer. Alot of review websites say is a big one and a very good one. I so far am enjoying it just sitting in my new case just waiting to be filled with my new computer.

Thanks a bunch Ken saved me alot of trouble and made me feel a whole lot better.

Oh it will be uber, im buying it in february. lemme list the specs :D

AMD 64 X2 4400 Toledo
ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe ATX S939 NFORCE4 SLI X16
OCZ 2GB (2x 1GB) 2-3-2-5 2.6V
2x XFX Geforce 7800GTX 256MB
Hitachi 80gig SATA 3gb sec
Lite-on Dual Layer DVD burner

And thats it, then later maybe a paycheck or two later i plan to get Water cooling, mainly all Danger Den products.

And of course the blue Hiper 580W Modular Powersupply.

What case are you using?

and PLS let us know how that motherboard does!!! I was thinking of it but it wasn't available when I got mine......
Your better off not buying the 2 GFX cards @ once....buy the second one last....that way you'll be up and running sooner ;)

Sorry but I have to ask everyone this....are you sure you need SLI?
What size monitor do you use?

I personally think SLI is great, but as an upgrade option.....and remember ATI will have their new cards out by then so your views may change!

I have a 17 inch Samsung Syncmaster 730B and a 15inch LCD MAG that my friend sold me for $50 :D (hey why not). Ill be playing games at probobally 1280x1024

I dont NEED SLI. but i was considering it.

Also do you think i should buy that motherboard now or wait until february when the price might drop?

what what new ATI cards? not the X1800XT's right?

One more question, if i went ATI would i still even want to consider that asus mobo?

Im using my old Chemning Case. the old old alienware style ones, i choosed that one because i already had it, it has plenty space above the power supply for my radiator, and it has space at the bottom of the case for my pump, i might move the HD cage up and remove the floppy case and just get a 5x9 Resivour instead of the cool floppy resivour thing

1280x1024 is a medium size resolution nowadays.....a single GTX or GT would be fine there....(then get a second card later)

ATI were late releasing the current (new) cards....they were on schedule with the even newer chips....Last year Nvidia got ALOT of the market because ATI was late with the current (new) cards....This year ATI are going to release their even newer cards around Feb......So they will corner the market this time ;)

The Asus board uses an Nvidia chipset, so you will be able to use a single ATI card but not Crossfire (ATI equivalent to SLI)

This is why is keep saying wait, buy the CPU,Mobo then GFX last (in that order, pref buy the mobo with the GFX)

Your going to see ALOT of change with PC's in the coming year.......(Feb crunch time for you)

Alright, well ill just save my money and wait for ATI to release something.

Yes i said wait, its going to be so difficult but at least i can still play games that interest me with my current set up.

Im sure when that stuff does get released ill quick run my system specs by the fourms and get some criticism before i purchase it.

Unless you're still using ISA cards, you won't be needing that -5v wire.

If PS/2 wasn't still widely used, you probably wouldn't need the -12v wire either.

yeah you just plug a metal paper clip into the green wire and the other end into a ground wire
