LCD & CRT monitors

Post by sbohdan »

hi all, just wasn't sure where this should go since there isn't anything about monitors in the topics. and this is it: shouldn't we have our own monitor section at LR? like tests and best buy list, or maybe even a comparitivechart of different monitors?
all I found was some comparing tests at toms hardware but they don't really tell you about best buys etc. since pretty much of everything else relating to PC is covered here, shouldn't we have at least a sticky which could be updated as new models come in or where everybody could share their experience with certain models?
ex: I bought a samsung syncmaster bf930 and after having it for a week had some issues (bad pixels coming out) - had to RMA and actually got a different monitor from hyunday now, because in the meantime I read up on what I could find on the internet and discovered 2 things:
- the hyunday B90A is actually using 8ms samsung and even though it is VERY slightly slower in latency (not noticable) but overall actually better for video (less noise than the 4ms BF930) and the the price is actually much less (I think it's a bargain for a 19" monitor - cost me US$299)

http://graphics.tomshardware.com/displa ... up-13.html

so what you guys think? shouldn't we have a monitor section? :ANAL:
personally I think LCD is the way for the future especially since latency came down a lot in recent couple of years making them a choice for gaming as well, not just office and surfing anymore , prices fell a lot and LCD's aren't straining your eyes nor emiting harmfull radiation.

Oh yeah, definately; go flatscreen or go home! lol
But seriously, LCD > CRT in prettymuch every aspect. I don't think I would ever recommend a CRT.

As far as a section for monitors... I suppose it could be there :dunno:

well, one more thing:
before I got the samsung I had a 15" LCD from HP (HP1510) and no matter how I cranked my gpu up, the games were still lagging at 1024x768. now i found out it was the latency of my 6 year old HP (like 60ms or something  ) and now with the new hyunday B90A I can play all new games (FEAR, COD2, doom3, quake4 etc.) at 1280x1024 and no lagging at all. I just love my new monitor (and it is so much bigger also). :finga:

I think we need one, not to mention a sticky that pertains to the benefits of LCD's when compared to CRT monitors. One thing is that is reduces eyestrain greatly due to its flatness and low rad emission, which can extend the life of those things essential to the PC builder: eyes, lol. But yeah, we definitely need a monitor section.

btw that Hyundai LCD is mucho mucho sexiness, rofl :)

yeah, I did a week of research and this seems to be the best buy out there. so I'm actually glad I had to RMA the BF930 - got money back ($145) and have a better overall performance :P

lcd is definitely better, but I think all LCD as well as gfx maker should make them in DVI format, let's just ditch VGA(rbg) for once. I hate the maker of teh card and the monitor keep using the old stuff.

I didnt want to start a new thread for cleanliness.......

which has a longer life?? It is the begaining of a long road for me but my 21inch will soon need to be replaced. Do Lcds have a longer life than crts? Are pixles going to be a hassle to worry about in the long run? When i get a monitor i keep it till it goes dead....or a new one is handed to me. LOL And i will go with the one that last the longest!

It really depends on the quality of the LCD. Some get dead pixels on day 1, others can last for years. I got my LCD slightly over a year ago, and already started noticing that there is a number of dead pixels. However, they don't bother me that much since they're only noticeable when the entire screen is the same color.

We are of one mind my friend, heheh......I like both the B90A (for the VGA crowd) and the L90D (for the DVI bunch)......both use Samsung TFT's if I'm not mistaken (I know the B90A does, not sure about the L90D).
