Things that make you go WTF!!!!!!!!!

Post by Dragon_Cooler »

Heard on the news today this kid was short of cash for college so on a whim he made a page of a million pixles and sold them for 1 dollar each, i guess for advertising. He sold them in lots of 100 not thinking anything of it and just all the sudden the money started rollin in. Well it got down to the last lot of 100 and there was such a high demand for it, he sold it on e-bay and went for roughly 38,000$

Yeah, I found the CNN article: http://www.cnn.com/2005/TECH/internet/1 ... n=cnn_tech

The only reason it worked for him is because the media gave it so much attention that the advertisers decided it was worth it since so many people would see it. Proof to this claim: his website exceeded the bandwidth and we can't access it anymore.

BTW are you sure he only made $38,000? He sold 911,800 pixels at a $1 each, where did the rest go?

Yeah started the site several months ago and lives over in Europe. He sold off over $900,000 in ads already and it looks like Times Square. Great idea for a one time knock off wonder. If you look close you will see he hired a marketing company and has several other sites that he owns in the "million" dollar site. Great idea and the kid earned a cool $900,000 in the process... props for that!

This may be a little off the subject, but it has occured to me that some eBay buyers arent too swift.
I still recall seing one guy sell of a PICTURE of a box of a PSP. Same with the Xbox 360.
Also remember one sneaky bugger selling PSP's one at a time but showing a photo of a STACK of them and starting the bidding at three thousand dollars.

Dont know how any of those worked out. It does support the notion that Americans are obsessed with their toys.
Life is the Emporers currency.
Spend it well.

not so much Americans, as Ebayers themselves. I see on a regular basis some stuff selling for more than what a new one at the store would cost. I mainly use the bay as a way to gauge prices for used RC parts.
