AM2 OR socket 939
With AM2 is going to be released, I wonder are any of you guys planning to upgrade to am2 or keep using socket 939 or maybe thinking of upgrading your socket 754 to socket 939.

I would really like to move to AM2 but by the time CPU's and motherboards are even remotly in my price range Conroe will be out, and it is what im really interested in. So AMD will likly sell me one more 939 processor, and will move up to 2gb, and maybe put a new video card in. But keep most of my system until mid 2007. If for some strage reason i can get a good overclocking board and dualcore cpu that will do at leat 2.6ghz from AMD and partners in the next 6mths then i might upgrade.

Have 939 now, if Conroe is all it's cracked up to be I'll move to Intel, but if that means DDR3 and hugely expensive stuff I might stay with AMD unless Conroe WAY outperforms EVERYTHING AMD has. Not being a phanboi, just economical.

AM2 is better but its not revolutionary. its at most 5% better than DDR1 system. What you cant see is how its going to scale in the next 2 years as AMD makes the transistion to 65nm and as DDR2 gets faster. DDR1 is hitting its limits, there will still be improvments and its by no means dead, but DDR2 is where all the real R&D is happening and thats where you going to see performance start scaling up.
Just wait, dont jump on the bandwagon quite yet

I'm just plain C-H-E-A-P! Still using Slot-A 750Mhz and Athlon 2200+ for now. When these newer chips come out, I'll be picking through the leftover 939 parts for a good deal.
Why? Because so much info on overclocking is already on the net and all sorts of do's and don'ts. I'll be ready. Maybe not today, maybe not tomarrow, but some time soon. (hmm, where did I hear that before?)

the last one you had that i was at was at our lan. did you have another one that i didn't know about? i know that you mentioned am2 at our lan, but i don't remember exactly what you said about it.Apoptosis wrote:where did you get those thoughts from and where were you at my last workshop here in STL?-mogwai wrote:here's everyone waiting for this supposedly great socket for amd and it isn't better than their old socket... hmm...
anyone have contradictory findings?
