New catalyst drivers for old ATI cards

Post by Nobahar »

I have an old Radeon 7500 and it always boggles my mind when certain applications require that I update my vid card drivers since the effects that are optimized by the newer drivers don't exactly do anything for my card, since it is already deceased pretty much in the gaming world.

I'm even concerned that some of the driver updates might actually slow down the performance of my card. Anyone know of any testing or studies that have shown whether or not an updated driver has any effect on outdated cards?

I think its more of what drivers are required by the app you are using. If a card was outdated I don't think you would care about performance since its outedated.
There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of animals Chuck Norris allows to live.

What exactly can an app find in a new driver that it complains about an old one? Specifically, it was a java application that required it- which was really strange since it doesn't really need anything more than on-board video.
