For those of you who ride, what type of helmet do you prefer?
beanie, open-face with a shield or full-face?
What brand?
Thanks,
David

I have an Arai full face and a Scorpion full face (these are nice helmets - ~$150 bucks and rated one of the safest). It really doesn't matter the brand as long as its DOT and/or SNELL approved. My 2 cents:
1 - Wear your helmet (full face) - reason #1. When my wife wrecked few years ago, her helmet was totaled but she didn't have a scratch on her face/head nor any head injuries. Granted, it was a low speed accident but if you could have seen her helmet you'd be shocked. I can't image what it would have done to her face/head. If you hit something @ 60 you're prolly dead anyway - with or without a helmet. However, most wrecks happen at low speeds...usually intersections and curves.
2 - Wear your helmet (full face) - reason #2. Every day I ride I get hit with rocks, bugs and various flying debris (cigarette butts - damn smokers
). If I wasn't wearing a helmet I'd have injuries to my face from these things. I actually had a rock hit my visor and crack it. If this happens at speed without protection, you are probably going DOWN and the results aren't going to be pretty.
3- Wear your helmet (full face) - reason #3. It's been proven that most riders fall forward and tend to hit the front or side of the head/helmet on the ground. My wife's helmet was gouged from chin all the way around the side and the face shield was torn off. The moral? Open face helmets don't protect you where you are likely to fall.
4- Wear your helmet (full face) - reason #4. Use a tinted face shield and you become a mysterious masked rider. I always see girls trying to check me out in the mirror because they can't see through the tint. Anonymity is sometimes fun!

ya, i know that i should wear the full face, but i love the feeling of on the face when riding on nice days. i dont like my face being squished in the full... i pretty much ride every day when it aint raining, havent gotten hit with anything bad. but i did get a bug splat on my glasses. Riding with out eye protection is just plane moronic.
