Ordered the New Rig today

Post by Sovereign »

Just a few minutes ago I ordered my new super-rig....specs are as follows:
AMD Opteron 170 Dual Core @ 2.0GHz 1MBL2 per core
Zalman 9500LED CPU Cooler
MSI K8N Diamond Plus S939 SLI
2GB G.Skill DDR500 (Yes I know I need to overclock for that :))
2x eVGA 7900GTX EGS (standard clocks)
150GB WD Raptor
2x250GB WD Caviar 2500KS
X-Fi XtremeMusic
BenQ Combodrive DVD-ROM/52x32x52 CD-RW
NEC 3550-A DVD writer
Floppy Drive (I never know when I'm going to need one)
PC Power and Cooling 850SSI
Thermaltake Armor Case (Black)
Windows XP Pro SP2 OEM
Logitech X230 2.1 Speakers (I'm not an audio nut, yet, and I don't have the space anyhow). I will post pics here at LR
first before anywhere else, of the build process and the final result. Note I will NOT be running many benchmarks (no 3DMark06 especially) due to the fact that IMO these tests stress the 7900s and help hasten death if the card will die at all.

Awsome looking... just one bad thing and nothing you could have done about it

Creative spills the beans on X-Fi faults
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=31780

Lets hope you dont have any issues with it.

one other thing!!! would you rather stress your cards now and find a fault or just let them die 6mths from now because you did not push them right off the bat :P

eVGA has a lifetime warranty right?

Your going to run dual folding with that rig right?

And they let you over or underclock, the only way to void your warranty is to physically damage the card (burn marks from excessive OCing or busted capacitors from an incorrectly installed aftermarket cooler). Aftermarket coolers ARE allowed.

X-Fi update: It says at Crative's forums that the most common way to fix the problem is....drum rolll......
DUAL CHANNEL MEMORY.
This generally alleviates the bandwidth issues. The next solution is TURN DOWN THE VOLUME! Why? Some games stress the 24-bit DAC/upmixer past its tolerance. So turn down the Windows Wave Volume.
