Stuttering CD-RW Drive

Stuttering CD-RW Drive

So my friend has this CR-RW drive, MATSHITA CD-RW (CW-8571), but lately its being stuttering with any type of disc playback, i.e. games/music/dvd's.

I was thinking that the lense might have gotten dirty and need cleaning with one of those disk-brushes, but not having one on me at her house I cant test that theory. :P

Is there anything software related that might be causing the stuttering? I cant think of anything offhand, so thought I'd ask you guys. :)

Nothing I can think of!

Motor might be going bad too. Normally if mine start acting up I just pitch it and buy antoher, since they are so cheap now a days.

Do they still make lens cleaners? I had cleaner discs for my 5 1/4 and 3 1/2 floppies - "back in the day" as my step-daughter would say :mrgreen:

Before you decide to replace it, try flashing the firmware!

Who knows, it might work........and if it doesn't a new drive is very cheap nowadays...
